16" Tires on 400E

Is there any reason 225/50/16 tires would not work on 16 x 7 1/2 rims on a 400E with ET of 38? I know a higher ET would be better, but can't find any 8 hole wheels with 40-42 et or could I go to 16 X 7 wheels and if so what et? I will be running 500E 16 x 8 on rear with 225/50/16 tires.

225 is a little wide on a 7.5" but should work ok, ditto for ET38. Might need to roll fender lips and/or add the fender spacers, depending on ride height and how hard you push in corners.

I run the flyweight CLK wheels, 16x7.0 ET37 with 205-55-16 tires. Pics here.

:burnout:

How about this wheel B66470089. I think it is from an early W210 with ET41.
That wheel should work fine if you can find any. More discussion here.

Be careful, some interweb vendors are crossing this to a 140 wheel which looks similar but has totally different specs.

I have two 8 x 16 500E wheels for back of the car and two 7 1/2 x 16 140 wheels which are ET51 not working. I want to look for 7 or 7 1/2 16 for front with ET around 40-42 so no issues. I will not be driving crazy at this point in my life.

You could also get two more 500E wheels for the front, just plan on rolling the fender lips & adding fender spacers.

Will the difference between 124 and 210 wheel be that noticeable?
No idea, but I expect few people would notice the difference.

Another option, if you're still working on this, are the lightweight Tolliman / CLK 16 inch wheels. I don't recall the ET offhand, maybe 42?
I have a set on my E420 with 215 / 55 / 16, and a set on my 300CE with 205 / 55 / 16 IIRC

These are 205 60 R15s I bought from an eBay seller in Japan.. I wasn't sure I would like them but they turned out okay--definitely better than the delaminated metallic paint on the original wheels.
