"I am offering a completely restored Mercedes Benz W 124 500e. The vehicle has undergone years of painstaking restoration and has been lovingly restored. The vehicle is in absolute top condition with no faults, let alone scratches, it has not been registered since 1996 and has been garaged for more than 15 years. The only previous owner only drove the car on Sundays, there is much more to tell about the history, I am still in contact with the previous owner and he will also decide the buyer
It is not a distress sale therefore
please only serious offers
Viewing in Kassel, further information by phone."

Bad joke.....

Bad joke.....
Everybody can dream.......overpriced massively....

It was in rough enough condition to need a bunch of new sheet metal, then it was devalued by performing a facelift as well? The wrong headlights are a bonus. Needed to take photos BEFORE the thick undercoating stuff was applied... what's lurking underneath? Also, no mention of the odometer reading prior to the rotisserie.

But - this 500E is extra special, because it has 390hp!!!

We have all enjoyed seeing the huge amount of NOS parts he has collected over a long time, he is really dedicated to the car. Aleksander hasn't been logged in here since 2019, however it is really surprising to see the car for sale with absolutely no referenced documentation to the deep going restoration.
I have a bad gut feeling about that ad, could someone check out that seller Digaudio on Kleinanzeigen?

Look at the image of the interior, this is what the car looked like before the resto work started with dirty floor mats, and where is the Brabus st.wheel, the Brabus shift knob, the Reccaro seats? And the big brake kit? the Brabus wheels? Most of the blurry images are screenshots from this forum.
That ad smells fraud business on a mile distance!

I've sent a PM to the seller asking for more specific information.

IMHO this is confusing the topic. SayHay's (Russian) car is clearly NOT the car that TS @036 is talking about.

What bewilders me about the Lippstadt car (with astounding asking price of € 0.18M): the last picture suggests that it is a North American delivered car (speedometer in miles and a check-engine control light), not a originally German-delivered car. No mention of it in the sales text. And it would only have been driven on Sundays? Plus: I agree with @gsxr: what about that 390 hp?? This is an unusual way of trying to sell a car IMHO.

Indeed. With complete 1492 conversion as well. Vin indicates a 1990 build, right?

:scratchchin:

That reminds me. Were there any 124.036 chassis manufactured in FEBRUARY of 1990? I thought production started in late 1990. And of the early 036, were there any early 1990's in Almandine?

The first Almandine was with an approx build date of 07-1990 (WDB1240361B313009) and the first with leather black interior (271) is WDB1240361B337054.

I couldn't find anything that matches this vehicle for sale given the 2/1990 date. Closest one would be WDB1240361B468438 that's 2/1991 (Almadine, leather black, heated seats, rear shade, no aux heater)

Chassis B313009 shows engine & transmission numbers 000000. I wonder if that's an error in the datacards? Screenshot below.

I'm guessing either 1990 is a typo and they meant 1991 (or 1992), or the entire listing is fraudulent. 😵

Most likely. Maybe it's an equivalent to the datacards without an engine/transmission number. I generally see these are the very beginning of production though. I recently was able to access the EPC database directly and the data is a bit messy where some FINs apparently do not exist or there are duplicates. Add the errors within the FIN datacards too or something like the closed-deck cut-off. Not everything in their data is 100% accurate to begin with so I don't think it's an error specific in the datacards but just little things throughout.

I'm guessing either 1990 is a typo and they meant 1991 (or 1992), or the entire listing is fraudulent. 😵
I would assume if it were really fraudulent then the seller probably wouldn't mention Viewing in Kassel or be willing to meet in person. I am even more curious about the VIN though.

Agreed. Looks like a fraudulent ad using @SayHey pictures, at least to me spending less than 3 mins on it.

maw

Well, I don't know what that fucker on Kleinanzeigen try to sell, but images #1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15 in his ad - are in SayHay's restoration thread here on the forum. And the other images, except for the last image of the interior which is of another car, are on the Russian blog Drive2.RU where SayHay posted a lot more images of his resto work.

I sent a couple of messages to him and the answer is that he has to see my ID. 😅😂

But he told you why he needs to see your ID, @500AMM(!) It's "because there are a lot of cars and nobody knows the place".

Why don't you understand that providing your ID will obviously imbue immediate knowledge of "the place" to all parties involved and it might even cure world hunger(!)

Finally bought what I wanted for a long time - E500 W124, the car that I was looking for, but didn’t find, and ended up buying a Subaru (which I don’t regret)
I just brought it from Moscow. It feels great on the track the FX seems wooden after it, but based on the dynamics it’s still not clear who’s going faster

I like everything about the car, there are minimal plans for modifications - I want to eliminate all minor cosmetic defects, bring the technical part into full working order, change the wheels and complete it with all sorts of original accessories that are assigned to it according to the VIN code.
After the cosmetic work is completed, I will arrange a good photo shoot, and then new beautiful photographs will appear.
