Cluster DDD, headliner looks rough (improper reupholstering?), driver bolster looks a bit worn for 50kmi, is that steering wheel freshly recovered?, wrong antenna and/or grommet, rear glass delaminating, wrong tunk badge (should have NO badge, has code 260)... makes one wonder what is lurking underneath. Not even a single photo under the hood either. Seller appears to have priced this based largely on the odometer, but with zero records to back it up, that seems optimistic.

On the plus side, the paint looks nice (fresh repaint?), mirror booties appear new, and it has correct (!!!) RHT 500E headlights/lenses/wipers! Manual climate control is a nice bonus. This car sold for €42k in Nov-2021 in Belgium (link) where the odo showed 75,126km... now shows 75,241km (same as May 2023 DMV record - hmmm). Original delivery was Germany but the seller says it was in Japan at some point. Shocks and springs replaced... hope those are OE/OEM 036-specific parts and not an SLS delete. I have a feeling this could easily rack up >$10k in mechanical needs at Blue Ridge despite the shiny paint.

This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E is one of approximately 4,400 vehicles produced that model year in collaboration with Porsche whose engineering team reworked the chassis to accommodate the 5.0L M119 V8 engine while making it lighter than the 500SL sports car. Compared to the other W124 models, the 500E has a lower and wider stance and includes safety and design innovations like an elongated driver's side rear-view mirror to better see traffic approaching from the rear (although that was likely infrequent). Due to its wider dimension, portions of the 500E were hand-built in the Porsche plant in Zuffenhausen and the full build took 18 days to complete.​

This example is finished in black with gray lower cladding and a matching black leather interior with accommodations for four passengers. It has just 75,241 km (46,753 miles) on the odometer and came well-equipped from the factory with a desirable sunroof. This vehicle was first delivered to Japan (all 500E vehicles were built as left-hand drive) and was moved to Belgium where it was acquired by the seller via online auction in 2021. The car is currently located in Miami, FL.​

A third-party inspection and detailed photo gallery represent a well-cared-for, low-mileage Mercedes-Benz sedan. The inspection notes excellent condition inside and out. The vehicle has recently been treated to a mechanical tuneup, including replacing the spark plugs and filters. The shocks and springs were replaced to improve the ride over the aging hydraulic self-leveling rear suspension. The bumpers and lower cladding have been refinished to return them to like-new condition. A $1600 A/C service including the replacement of the compressor and dryer completed recent work to ensure a comfortable climate for occupants during warmer months. ​

$68K is a lot of $$$$! For that amount there should be full disclosure. It definitely needs pics of undercarriage and engines bay. Maybe a walk around and test drive video. Also a PPI with Jono or Cousin Pierre would reveal a lot more information.

Lots of detailing and looks great in the pics but pics can be deceiving. I think the Dealer is going to have to reveal a lot more before he sells it.

Interesting @gsxr it seems there's a different set of pics on Classic.com. There were some "Mechanical" photos of under the hood but nothing under the body. You're right though, it's a stretch car but "European" might help the price along a bit.

Yeah - makes me highly suspicious that SLS was deleted, and the delete was done incorrectly with wrong springs. With SLS delete you need taller springs to lift the rear, because SLS always supports some of the weight.

This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E is a European-market example that was imported from Belgium to the US following the seller’s acquisition in 2021 and now shows 75k kilometers (~47k miles). The car is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Black Pearl Metallic over black leather upholstery. Equipment includes 16″ eight-hole alloy wheels, a power sunroof, fog lights, Automatic Slip Control, automatic climate control, a Becker cassette stereo, heated power-adjustable front seats, and cruise control. Work under current ownership has involved replacing the front shocks and springs, air conditioning compressor and receiver/drier, and spark plugs. This W124 500E is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, a tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the name of the seller’s LLC.​

The 500E was assembled by Porsche and featured wheel arch flares, revised bodywork, and a lower ride height when compared to other W124 models. This example is finished in Black Pearl Metallic and features gray lower cladding. The 16″ eight-hole alloy wheels are mounted with 225/55 Continental ContiPremiumContact 2 tires that show 2015 date codes. The car is equipped with Automatic Slip Control (ASR). Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs. The front shocks and springs were replaced in August 2022.​

The cabin features heated power-adjustable front seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Amenities include automatic climate control, a Becker cassette stereo, a power-adjustable steering column, dual front airbags, and cruise control.​

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 260-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 75k kilometers (~47k miles).​

The 5.0-liter M119 DOHC V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The spark plugs and engine air filters were replaced in February 2022. In November 2023 the air conditioning compressor and receiver/driver were replaced. The Carfax report is free of accidents or other reported damage [because Carfax does not have data from Europe, and is therefore pretty useless].​

I think we're dealing primarily with a mix of (1) rust, (2) integrity concerns around disclosure, (3) previous repairs not done particularly well (car not sitting level), and (4) a ridiculous price. Car needs work to bring it BACK UP TO the $42k last sale, let alone has the work that's been done raised the price UP FROM the $42k last sale.

It MIGHT be a $45k car but it's nowhere near a $70k car.

So it's like, why even bother talking to the seller?

Coil springs are an odd thing to replace unless removing aftermarket, and installing new OE springs. Fronts look new and could be OE (can't read the part number on the tag), but those are NOT the correct rear springs... what the heck??





And, why would a 50kmi car be missing the foam strip across the leading edge behind the grille? At least the new owner can buy a nice repop from the group buy currently on the forum.

Think I figured it out... the L-shaped rubber seals on each side of the hood are for a 6-cyl car, not for the V8 versions. That, along with the missing front foam piece, leads me to suspect the hood has been replaced with a used one from a pedestrian 124. Odd, for such a low odometer reading. Would be interesting to check the VIN tags in the door jamb, fenders, and hood if present - these were phased out mid-production, I'm not sure if this particular car had them from the factory or not.

Now for sale on MBM. Odo only shows +115 km's in the past TWO YEARS.

Indicated engine temps near 110°C in 23°C / 75°F ambients isn't a good look, especially with a new (aftermarket) fan clutch installed.

Pity the rear suspension is still screwed up... non-factory rear springs (see older posts with details) and it's sitting a couple of inches too high.

Yes and yes (plus, the OEM clutch has been hard NLA for many years). Looking at the recent invoice, it appears the car was a letdown to the current owner after purchase (understandably). But, only ~75 miles driven? Either it was a MAJOR disappointment, or the odo is borked.
