Definitely hoopties. Miami strikes again. For me, it might have been fine until we got to the interior bits. Reversing wheels and exhaust is nothing, and I don't find the paintwork particularly offensive. But the seats, dash and door cards lost me.

Lots more photos in the Hemmings ad. Japan/LHT headlights will be tough to replace with RHT. The muffler hurts my eyes, but at least they retained the factory cats and a Leistung cat-back would cure it.

Needs factory springs & 036 struts. Hope the Fosgate Punch sub in the rear deck doesn't rattle. No Sound System either, meaning no front door midbass drivers... needs Jehnert doorboards to blend properly between the dinky 100mm dash speakers and the Fosgate sub in the rear deck.

Japan-spec means no engine oil cooler, btw...

Someone put a lot of $$$$ in that car. A lot of which won’t be appreciated here in the US especially for $49.5K.

I’m w/@szvook on that exhaust. :runexe:Why the Porsche steering wheel? It’s not a Porsche, and the big screen radio/TV? F’d upholstery. Just to much of everything. Way to many unreversable mods unless you want to spend lots of $$.

For $49.5K it should be staying in Miami a long time. Maybe the guy trying to sell the high dollar E500Es can add it to his collection.:jono:

I still don’t get the need to badge something with something that it’s not. I’ve seen a number of AMG badges on an 036 online that are not an E60, period. One guy has a beautiful E500 with more AMG badges than I could count, inside and out. Hell, there’s a 500SL in the garage of my complex that has a Brabus badge right above the AMG badge on the trunk and it’s not an AMG SL to begin with. I would love to see a fake 036 E60 AMG on the streets here and see what it could do against me at traffic light.

I met the RMC guys and hosted a vintage Benz club show with Daniel at a brewery in Miami last year. They have procured cool hot rodded Benz before. And even a JDM EL Benzo.

They get cool stuff from Japan, and there's certainty someone who wants this.

Its on eBay. I was looking at this car thinking in my mind how to make the interior less gaudy. Maybe take black dye and just run if all over the fabric parts. Didnt even notice the top of the car is blue. Replace the steering wheel and shifter, add a the benz hood ornament back. 🤷‍♂️

Does Ebay have a "perpetuity" option? $44.9K OBO...

It's still on eBay.

Also showing on Hemmings.

I didn't check Craigslist - or my Weekly Shopper...

when all else fails send it off to the auction: Mecum

I saw it in person last Saturday at Mecum... with the unforgettable Louis Vuitton themed/borrowed Damier-design cloth inserts in the doors and the luxurious gear shifter. Most of the particular features of this car are indeed reversible, so it could make a comeback from its Miami roots should someone pick it up? The RMC (Real Muscle Car) dealership in Miami always sells cars at Mecum and they often come across some cool, different stuff with lots of variety for their clientele. I am certain this was traded in for another toy.

It will be interesting to see what it goes for under the hammer this Thursday the 12th? Perhaps the new owner can become part of the forum.

You have to create a profile to access results - relatively easy. Back to Miami and EBay it goes… although would be interesting to see how the BAT er - what are they called (not synonymous with enthusiasts), but… anyhow - what they would be willing to spend on it. RMC will eventually have to ship it overseas or sell it wholesale.

Ebay apparently has little pride or scruples as they have accepted this ad back after their dalliance with the competition...

1992 Mercedes Benz 500E W124 ROW Spec Slick top

Available now is this Japanese customized wolf in sheep's clothing

Our amazing 500E was modified in Japan by highly regarded Tuning shop called Azzure motoring. The car has been refinished in deep blue metallic stripped down and taken apart to bare metal and then resprayed to an OEM standard. The quality of the paint is fantastic as seen in the pictures available in the gallery and posted below. The 5.0-liter M119 V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed 722 automatic transmission. The engine pulls strong and transmission shifts smoothly. Engine and transmission have reportedly been rebuilt as well as the engine harness. We recently went and had the car serviced with a
full tune up including new rotor and cap, all new spark plugs new wires and new rotor and cap with reciepts. The car has been tuned and feels really fast with precise and quick shifts. On top of the engine is a strut bar for increased rigidity and better handling. Exhaust has been upgraded cat back and sounds awesome. The car still maintains factory cats in the mid pipe as seen in the undercarriage photos below. Bottom is rust free and shows no corrosion. The floors are very nice even the jack points are all there and in good condition.

Body is in phenomenal condition body lines are straight there is no waviness in the doors and the factory widebody gives the car an incredible street presence. The car has been lowered with a custom adjustable setup. The rare and gorgeous 19 inch "Carlsson" model 1/16 wheels are finished in gloss black and compliment the exterior of the car very nicely. Behind the wheels on front and rear the factory brakes have been replaced and upgraded to Porsche Brembo big brakes with stainless steel braided lines. The result is a tremendous increase in stopping power and a look that is absolutely fantastic.
This is a factory slick top ( no sunroof model ) which is quite uncommon in the production of these 500Es. The Mercedes emblem has been shaved off the hood and looks very clean. Trunk lock button also has been shaved and a trunk release was relocated in the gas tank. Taillights have been upgraded to LEDs and give the car a more updated appearance. Headlight and fog light bulbs have been also upgraded to HIDs.

Interior has been largely customized and it is an awesome place to be. Immediately upon opening the driver door you are greeted by Louis V suede door panels and seat bolsters. In the door sills of all 4 doors is a stainless steel AMG displayed. Entire headliner is now suede, even the sun visors are also Louis V. The trim has all been upgraded to a glossy marble finish and looks great. Most of these trims are usually cracked and beaten up these look fresh and very presentable. The center tray wood cabinet works and is not broken which is usually common. The steering wheel has been replaced and upgraded to a Raid Porsche steering wheel with Porsche crest valued roughly at around $1000. Radio has been changed to a "eclipse" pop up double din screen with DVD compatibility.
If purchased in USA it is suggested to change radio to be able to tune into American radio frequencies. Sound system upgrades also include a kicker subwoofer and amp [Admin edit: Rockford Fosgate is not Kicker!] cleanly mounted in the rear deck shelf. All power functions in the car work as they should including all windows, ice cold ac, functional heat and all seat adjustments.

Purchaser will receive service records, 3 keys , books manuals and a clean Florida Title.

Rebuilt engine, but only one new rotor & cap? :ROFLMAO: Rear window glass is standard, not 036, which is odd.

:scratchchin:

To be fair, my rear window developed a crack and I don’t know what I’ll do about getting a proper replacement piece of glass installed… 😭
Correct rear glass is still available new from the dealer. If you have comprehensive coverage, your insurance may cover some or all of the replacement cost. I wouldn't install standard rear glass on the 036... it will hurt resale, and it's something you will see every time you walk up to the car from the rear.

Now on Douggie's C&B. Most all photos are the same as above, and my image-grabber extensions will not work on the C&B site, grrr.

Highlights

THIS... is a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E, finished in Midnight Blue Metallic with a blue interior.
  • This 500E is a Japanese-spec car that is titled in Florida. It's equipped with a metric instrument cluster, and its odometer displays approximately 176,100 kilometers, which represents about 109,400 miles.
  • A partial list of notable equipment reported by the seller includes headlight wipers, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and automatic climate control. -A full list of notable modifications reported by the seller is detailed below. Highlights include an aftermarket catback exhaust, Sachs Super Touring shocks, Hyperco lowering springs, a Porsche Brembo big brake kit, a repaint in Midnight Blue Metallic, 19-inch Carlsson 1/16 wheels, and custom upholstery.
  • Nicknamed the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing," the 500E was a high-performance variant of the W124. Mercedes-Benz commissioned Porsche to assist with re-engineering the W124 chassis to fit the 5.0-liter M119 V8. The widened fender flares made the chassis too big for the W124 assembly line, leading Porsche to step in to help with assembly. The back-and-forth movement of each 500E chassis between the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche factories for different stages of assembly resulted in an 18-day assembly time.
  • Power comes from a 5.0-liter M119 V8, rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Seller Notes

Since this Mercedes-Benz is an imported vehicle, it may not pass emissions testing in some states. As always, it's the buyer's responsibility to perform all due diligence regarding registering this 500E in their respective state prior to placing a bid.

Doug's Take

The W124 Mercedes-Benz 500E was famously born out of a collaboration between Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, and it became one of the most iconic super sedans of its period. This particular 500E is a Japanese-market example that features several modifications intended to enhance its performance and style, including Sachs Super Touring shocks, Hyperco lowering springs, a Porsche Brembo big brake kit, a repaint in Midnight Blue Metallic, 19-inch Carlsson 1/16 wheels, and custom upholstery. Plus, this 500E comes with a U.S. title, so the difficult process of importing a car from abroad is already completed.

The repaint was not Pearl Black, but it is also NOT MIDNIGHT BLUE. Also, there is no factory color "Midnight Blue Metallic". Midnight Blue code 904 is non-metallic and looks, uh, blue. This looks closer to 009 Sapphire Black to me. Or some custom color. But nothing at all like 904.

Also - current owner bought it WEEKS ago and is dumping it after 500 miles?

:yayo:

It's also listed on FBM for $43k.
