No affiliation. Looks nice. Rare "Anthacite" (no "R" in the middle).
The new front LCA's were installedin summer 2023, after these went NLA... hope they aren't the cheap offshore versions with self-destructing ball joiints. The invoice (photo #285) did not specify the brand name. No extra charge for the cracks in the wheel centers.

This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SL AMG 6.0 was reportedly modified in period by AMG Germany for the Brunei Royal Family. The car features an original M119 V8 that was increased in displacement to 6.0 liters by AMG and shows a stamped engine block. Finished in Anthacite Grey Metallic (172) over a Grey Leather (278) interior, the car features a full AMG body kit, OZ Racing Aero III wheels, AMG exhaust, and painted trim. Additional features include a new black folding soft top, a removable paint-matched hardtop, automatic climate control, 300kph AMG gauge cluster, rear kinder seats, and original Euro-spec lighting. Extensive maintenance has been performed under current ownership since 2021 including rebuilt top hydraulics, front & rear brake pads, fuel pump, rebuilt steering box, various suspension parts, all fuses, ignition coil, spark plugs, and much more. Thorough receipts and documentation showing the cars history is provided and shown in the gallery. Now with less than 29k kilometers (~18k miles), this premerger AMG is now being offered by the seller in United Kingdom with a removable hardtop & stand, service records, wind deflector, two infrared keys, one valey key, key holder cassette, original tool kit, and a clean U.K. title.
The body is finished Anthacite Grey Metallic (172) with matching lower body cladding and a full AMG body kit. The Gen 1 AMG kit consists of both front and rear bumpers, extended side skirts, and a 3-piece ducktail Heckspoiler. All parts are stamped with HWA AMG part numbers. A monochrome color scheme by AMG also features painted headlight and windshield wipers along with paint-matched wheels. An authentic AMG exhaust is fitted and shows period correct AMG tips at the rear. A new folding soft top was recently fitted in February 2024 along with all rebuild top hydraulics in May 2022. The front bumper was repainted in November 2023 and the seller notes minor chips on the front grill. The glass features a slight green tint, believed to also have been done in period by AMG with matching side mirror glass. Detailed photos are provided in the gallery highlighting any imperfections.
The original 17" staggered 3-piece AMG Aero III wheels are made by OZ Racing and were refinished in August 2023. The faces are paint-matched to the body color with polished lips, OZ wheel bolts, and the original AMG flat center caps are included. Continental Premium Contact 6 tires were installed in June 2021 measuring 225/45 front and 255/40 rear. The seller notes the rear wheels show some lug hole cracks which do not go all the way through and during their refinish, light welds were added to the inside for rigidity.
The interior is upholstered in Grey Leather (278) with a matching lower dash and carpets. Burl wood trim accents the center console, gear shifter, and doors, and presents in excellent condition. Amenities include automatic climate control, an upgraded Blaupunkt Bremen head unit, and a retracting roll bar. The top hydraulic cylinders have been rebuilt and both seats were re-trimmed at respected specialist D:Class Automotive Ltd. The seller notes the headrests on both seats are inoperable.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an AMG gauge cluster featuring a 300kph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, analog clock, and auxilary gauges for fuel level, fuel pressure, instant economy, and coolant temperature. The AMG gauge cluster was reportedly installed when the car was new during the 6.0 conversion and at that time, changed from miles to kilometers. The odometer reads 29k kilometers (~18k miles).
The M119 V8 was bored and stroked to increase displacement at AMG’s Affalterbach factory to 6.0-liters, resulting in a rating of approximately 375 horsepower. AMG stickers denoting the 6.0L upgrade are seen on the radiator support and valve covers. Additionally, an "AMG 119 6.0" stamp can be found on the engine block along with a "6.0" marking on the oil dipstick handle. The car is also listed as having the correct 5956cc engine on all DVLA documents. Extensive maintenance has been performed since the owners acquisition in 2021 totalling approximately $25k in work to ensure this AMG is fully sorted. An itemized list of service is outlined below:

This particular example stands out from the crowd as a documented 6.0L originally ordered by the Brunei Royal Family and benefits from extensive recent service. Both the brand new soft top and original hardtop operate flawlessly thanks to recently rebuilt top hydraulics. The VIN on these RHD cars that went to Brunei always show the stock UK car before they went to Germany for the AMG upgrades. Interestingly, the VIN decodes with option 828- Deletion of catalytic converter, which is uncommon for vehicles designated for the UK, and may be another indicatation of its intent of AMG conversion when new. Accompanying the car is a Brunei registration/service book that shows the car was auctioned by the Brunei Royal Family in 2011, and a photo of the auction sheet is provided in the gallery. The registration document shows the company Bandtoo SDN BHD as first owner which is the government company that auctions the cars off for the family.
There's no comparison to the originality of a car built back in the glory days, backed with a documented history. This 500SL 6.0 has been fully sorted and properly kept in a temperature controlled storage facility, only driven in nice weather and avoiding harsh winters. For collectors today, a car needs to check a lot of boxes to qualify as worthy and this R129 AMG does just that, AMG stamped engine block and all.

The MB Market Insights
Premerger AMGs have officially transcended into highly desireable collector pieces among automotive enthusiasts from all walks. The W124 AMG 6.0 Hammer commands nearly $1 million today followed by C126 widebody cars which aren't far behind. As the market evolves and more people start to understand just how special these premerger cars really are, the same effect is now happening with the R129 and W140. It's believed approximately 50 or less of the early R129s were converted to 6.0L AMGs making them among the most rare models produced. This particular example stands out from the crowd as a documented 6.0L originally ordered by the Brunei Royal Family and benefits from extensive recent service. Both the brand new soft top and original hardtop operate flawlessly thanks to recently rebuilt top hydraulics.
