Nice to see one without a black interior too, all the Almadine ones I've seen have been black leather.

I must admit that is a good looking color combo, however I will keep waiting for a Garnet Red/Black, good maintenance history and good mechanical condition available for sale and I will take it in a finger snap.

This is a nice combo, but it's a New York, cold weather car. Glen, a couple of years back I saw an Almadine one in Del Mar, on 15th steet, it was the cleanest example of a 500e, well, next you your silver one.

Thanks :-)
I've seen an almadine in Encinitas on several occasions. And at least one spruce green one...making at least 3 in the San Diego area counting yours.

Is Garnet Red Metallic the same color as Almandine? :scratchchin:

Yes it is Gerry...

Stevester, you no like this car? Compared to what you are driving, this car is awesome. Great paint and interior, well maintained, records, low miles...its a shame to throw stones at it .

Jimbo,

Do you happen to know this car? Any additional information on current cosmetic and mechanical condition? I would be concern on rust issues or negative stories about it. It's just me or the muffler pipes are painted or perhaps just accidentaly sprayed as a result of some rear bodywork?

Color code is 512. North American market called this Garnet Red Metallic, in German it was Almandine Rot. Different name but identical color, unlike your 'shroom yank attempt.

:chainyank:

Jimbo, I am not throwing stones.
>>This is a nice combo, but it's a New York, cold weather car.
I think maybe I threw a pebble whilst givng it a compliment.

I realize that any 500e is better than my green machine. When I spoke, I was regurgitating what I have heard other senor member's say about cold weather cars. Also, I know an MB enthusiast from New Jersey and he advised me to stay away from cold weather cars.

If I were to restate what I said, I would say, "This is a nice combo, but it's a New York, cold weather car."

I sincerely apologize if offend anyone or if it appeared I was throwing stones.

The seller has an Alfa 164 and a 500e and he is getting rid of the Mercedes??? I've had both, and the 164 is loooong gone and I will be keeping the Mercedes forever. Makes me wonder why he is selling the better car......just curious :wtf:

Wow!! you guys are really into the 500e! I'm starting to think I shouldn't sell it! I'm a Alfa guy by heart and the one in the back ground isn't just a 164 Its a 164S only 112 sent to the U.S. I wish it was a 164Q! Anyway I was lucky to come across this car in Bridgehampton on a job and ended up with it as a part of the deal! If any one has questions feel free to ask!

To answer your question! Its not paint on the muffler pipes. Its oxidation and the left pipe is slightly bent. The car was like that when I got it!

It is amazing to see how different the color appearance is when the paint is kept clean and polished as this car looks like. I am not a particular "red head/lover" when it comes to car colors (..except for the Pajett red), but I have seen a lot of pedestrian Almadine red 124s around with bad TLC, and they look disgusting, sorry to say. But this car is really shining and carry its color with pride. :-)

As for cold climate cars. Here in Norway we live in the arctic belt with snow & ice conditions during winter, and the chemicals is sprayed on the roads approx 4-5 months a year, so I'm pretty familiar with rust problems. Rust problems is always a risk, but it depends for a great part on continous inspection and maintenance. On the other hand - cold climate is to my understanding better for the 036 cars than hot conditions. Just monitor the troubleshooting and maintenance people post here on the forum. I would say a major part of the running issues is heat related, some cars do simply have a fried engine room, and not to mention the interior damages. Mechanically is the heat a challenge for the 036 with it's over-engineered and old tech control system.

So, in my opinion is this car a nice sample if the maintenance records and title are clean. It does also have most of the post facelift stock equipment like; electric steering column, rear window sun blind, electric drivers side mirror, factory alarm, 3rd brake light. The only missing to be complete is auto dimming rearview mirror and memory pass.seat - which is very rare. (I don't consider the Becker radio, Motorola phone and flip-top armrest as stock equipment.)

Great looking car - someone to pull their credit card now!

Welcome, thanks for joining and offering to answer questions!

When cars it's a matter of personal preference. Some prefer Alfa's, some Mercedes, some BWM, etc. No "right" and "wrong" there :)

Good luck with the sale!

P.S.: Love the color combo.

AlfaUnit, the seller from this 036, allowed me to share his comments about the current condition from his car with any interested buyer. No affiliation.

"I have all the service records from the previous owner of this car, and to my knowledge he was the second owner and he purchased it at 50K on it. He gave me all the service records and it shows that he had the car professionally maintained in till the sale to me. I will say that I don't think this guy ever drove it past 60 mph. The engine runs amazingly smooth and does not burn a drop of oil. when I took possession of it last year I did a full tune up on it, and changed the silencer muffler because it had a leak.
As to the condition of the exterior the car was painted last summer, from the plastic up! there is not paint chips or dings or dents on the paint that im aware of. The lower plastic does show a little fading from its original paint jobs but look great. nothing that would cause me to want to paint it. their is signs in only one spot of rust, and that's on the inside of the passenger side rear wheel in the back side of the wheel well at the bottom. its not visible from the out side of the car. The under body is in excellent shape with no sings of rust to the under body. The power antenna needs to be replaced. that would be it for the out side of the car.

The interior leather is in great shape, the driver seat has no rips in the leather could use a little cleaning, the passenger seat is just about perfect, and the rear seats look like no one as ridden back there. carpet could use a cleaning. the dash is in great shape. there was a leak that was coming in from the seal of the front windshield that I had fixed. I had noticed that there was sings of water that was coming in and traveling down the passenger side pillar on to the dash speaker. if you see in the picture, you will see some rust on the speaker grill. All of the buttons on the inside of the car work except for the one that make the rear head rest fall back. When I got the car last summer the ac was not blowing cold. so I had it re charged! and it blows super cold air! No joke...

The head liner looks good visually, but is sagging a little by the hand grips. all in all the car is in really great condition for its year. Don't get me wrong the car is not new! I would give it a 8 out of a 10. Oh I did mention that the brake light just came of and that the brake pads will need to be replaced soon. I cant get more pictures to you right now! The car is in buffalo 14047 and I am in long Island working. and wont be back fir two weeks! If the car sells I would have to make a special trip up there to close the deal. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for your interest

Chuck"

Alfaunit....I am an Alfa nut too, didnt mean any harm with my comments re: your 164.....I had an 164S as well as a GTV6 and 2 Milanos (a modified Verde and a Gold), loved that V6 engine noise, but the quality of the Mercedes sooo far exceeds the Alfa's that I would find it hard to go back, although if a nice GTV6 or 164Q came along, I may reconsider :whistling2:

500amm, I like how you speak the truth. Mercedes do run hot and sunny locations are not good for interiors.
The best thing on can do for any car in any climate is to keep in garaged. For example, the Almandine Rot. colored one I saw in sunny San Diego California must have been garaged, because it looked better than this one for sale.

Although earlier I had said this was a good color combo, I aid it because parchment interior goes with Almandine Rot..
However, real men don't eat quiche and real men drive cars with black leather seats, dark brown is acceptable too - joking.

Common on guys, why do you think black seats are so sought after? How many WTB adds have you seen for blue interior, parchement, light grey. . . .and black?

Black seats are more sporty looking as well as cool and classy, while the lighter colors look more posh and elegant. Plus the lighter leather can get dirtier faster and will show more wear compared to black. IMHO, red and gray cars with black interior look the best, followed by black on black cars. I wouldn't have bought my car if the interior wasn't black.

Feel free to flame me...but light interiors are too feminine for a car like the 036.

Ok...maybe very light interior vs. just light. Anywho, just my 2¢.

Agree, certain cars just look "wrong" in a light interior. To me that includes any large supersedan (AMG S class, S8, 7 series, etc)

However, I'm a sucker for BMW's Estoril Blue or Alpina's Frozen Blue with a dove gray or bone white interior.

Now listed at IAA auctions with claimed flood damage. Note the odometer reads identical to a reported reading from a May 2020 emission test, indicating a high possibility of broken odometer / TMU. Looks intact and reasonably clean. Interesting that the car received a facelift tunk lid, hood & lights since the 2013 sale. Can't tell for sure but I think those are standard 124 Euro lights (maybe Depos), not correct 036 Euro lights.

I'm curious how silly the sale price might be. I estimate north of $20k. All the valuable bits are intact. No mention if the title is branded but I assume it will be.

:watchdrama:

May have sold for ~$20k with feels fees. Will be interesting to see if it pops up for sale in the future with a magically cleansed title.

1686163166843.png

Note the title shows as "NON-REPAIRABLE"... not sure what that means exactly? Can't be titled again in CA?

1686163225580.png

Legally No, you cannot re-register a car that was issued a non-repairable title, not even under a salvage title.
It is solely declared as a parts car or scrap metal.
... but then, someone always knows a way to get a title for it somehow...

It’ll show up in Montana with clean title LOL.

I also doubt the car was in a flood. I would guess (1) a stated value policy, (2) followed by a claim (1st check), (3) followed by a repurchase, (4) followed by this sale (2nd check)… but I might be cynical.
