Harry's Thoughts

Many consider the W124 class to be the last "true Mercedes." Combined with a Porsche V8 and a very interesting production story, this really is a very special sedan.

THE ESSENTIALS

Complete photos, videos, and inspection report available at www.ClassicPromenade.com. It’s free to bid and only takes minutes to register.

This is a very well preserved and cared for 1994 Mercedes Benz E500 (w124) which has been owned by our collector client for the past 28 years. It has a clean CARFAX, and is accident and rust free. The owner and his wife have been longtime members of the Classic Car Club of America and the Mercedes-Benz Club, and have enjoyed a beautiful collection of important cars. With the exception of the 18 inch AMG 5-spoke wheels (the original rims are also included) and the lowered front suspension, this Benz is completely original and a survivor.

This E500 was built in March of 1994 and originally sold through a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Chicago in August of that year. The first owner was a gentleman who owned a number of car dealerships throughout the Midwest. In 1996, its current owner purchased the car with just 2,200 miles after having found it on the showroom floor of a Toyota dealer in Farmington, MI. The Toyota dealer was one of the dealerships the original owner operated.

The current owner has a home in Tuscon, Arizona. And immediately after the car was purchased, it was sent to Tucson where it has lived ever since. To be more precise, this E500 has spent most of its life parked next to a 300SL in a climate controlled garage! Since then, this E500 has averaged a mere 2,750 per year for the last 28 years.

This E500 has been extremely well maintained, which is supported by the abundance of paperwork and service receipts (see supporting photo). Some of the more noteworthy and recent service work includes a new A/C condenser (and complete system recharge), new air suspension in the rear, a new power steering pump, new front suspension bushings (control arms, sway bars, etc.), as well as a complete front suspension lowering kit which drops the front end about 1.5 inches.

Though the paint is original, the Rosenholz (Rosewood 485) Metallic still shows beautifully with excellent shine, luster, and depth. One would be very hard pressed to find any scratches or swirl marks on this paint, it truly is in very outstanding condition for its age. That being said, there are some very hard to notice blemishes around the bottom of the wheel wells. The chrome and stainless overall are in very good to excellent condition, with lots of shine and very few imperfections. The AMG wheels give this Benz a more modern but period correct, and certainly more sporty look. The wheels are free of any curb rash. The original wheels also come with the car, and are in great shape as well.

The interior is extremely very well preserved, and possibly one of the nicest W124 interiors you’ll find anywhere. The attractive Mushroom (light beige) leather with real walnut wood and black dash are very tasteful and timeless. The dash, door panels and headliner are overall very good to excellent. The wood itself has only one spot of epoxy cracking around the window controls, but otherwise it shows fantastically. It appears as though the backseats have never been used, based on the condition of the leather. The front seats have very little to no signs of wear.
All interior components work as they should. In fact, the only thing we noted to be problematic was the small digital box under the speedometer which shows outside temperature; this box only illumines about half the time.

The Porsche built 303 cubic inch V8 produces 322 hp and 354 ft. lbs. of torque. It is an aluminum block with double overhead cams and 32 valves. The story about the product of these E500s is an interesting one between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. More details can be found in the grey description box on our website listing page.

Mechanically, this E500 is in outstanding running condition. It drives exactly as you would expect from a hand built high-performance luxury Germany sedan; a smooth and effortless driving experience. The current owner has gone to great lengths to maintain this Benz, and it truly is ready to be enjoyed.

The chassis shows that it is rust free. This E500 has all its original manuals, tools, and comes with 3 sets of keys.

Details about this E500s condition are included in the 158-point inspection report which is published as part of this listing, and it is available for viewing at our Phoenix showroom.

The Hagerty Price Guide reflects a No. 3 value of $39,500 and a No. 2 value of $60,200. Despite this, we believe this will sell at an incredible value.

That drop in the front really misaligned the car’s look. I wonder if the new air suspension in the rear reference is about new rear struts with accumulators.

This is my favorite bit from the ad - “The Porsche built 303 cubic inch V8”.

I didn’t realize that was an available color. @gsxr or @gerryvz, whats the production numbers on US examples of this color combo?
Four in 1993, two in 1994. Rare bird. Amazing it is this rust-free after Michigan registration for 3 decades!

Will be interesting to see if the buyer plans to keep it, or if a flipper will re-list with a 100% markup.

:pc1:

At that number it's a certain flip... gorgeous color (to me) and a complete steal at that price (again, to me)... if you're looking for a good deal on one of these, you just missed one (finally, says me).

I thought it was a bit raked to the front as well, but that's an easy fix, as is everything else I spotted on the car (e.g., rear badging).

maw

Really cool color combo! That brown is totally an early 90’s tone, which I love. Looks great against the interior color.

Yeah totally agree! That was well bought! How did I miss this!?!?!?!? 🤦🏻‍♂️

That is indeed a minty interieur! And challenge accepted! Just FYI - new knobs knobs for the Becker 1492 are available, and I have found that gorilla glue and binder clips works well to reglue the map pockets. :stickpoke:

Yah saw it earlier on the forum. Need to do it on my 199 as well, I wish everything would be so easy to fix on these machines. 😁
Also need to do something with my armrest on my 199, probably the easiest way is to have someone dye it.

I’m the new owner of this spectacular beauty! Not the price that I was hoping to get it for, but seems like not too bad of a deal either. 🍾
Congrats! I think you got a very good deal, if it checks out as claimed. :deniro:

Will you re-install stock springs, or at least try to get the ride height leveled out? I had similar issues with H&R springs, front too low, rear too high. I eventually went back to stock and was happier. OH, and put Lamin-X on those irreplaceable headlights lenses ASAP. !!!!

Yes! Many congrats. Its beautiful. I might even be able to stomach a parchment interior for that exterior color. :)
LOL! Same here. I'm not a fan of Parchment (despite owning several cars with it)... but for some paint colors, it works well. Rosewood is definitely cool.

Congratulation, Rosewood is spectacular !!
Impossible to find in Europe.

Thank you much guys! Never seen Rosewood in person but looks so unusual and eye catching on .036!

I will definitely try to get it back to the stock height! As for the Lamin-X idk Dave as i don't plan on driving it too often anyway, i have my other .036 for cruising around. But thank you much for your suggestions, as always highly appreciated! :beerchug:

Funny when I searched for the VIN on this car before posting on the Values thread, nothing came up.

Well done @Citibulschii... Enjoy!
