I just spotted this and don't remember seeing it posted before:

Also an eBay listing:

No VIN listed.

I'll leave it to the cognoscenti to review and comment further.

Please delete the thread if this is a duplicate - I did search for "4StarClassics" and didn't find anything.

FOR SALE: Just 63k miles and fresh from an engine rebuild, a rare and collectable E500 Limited.
VIEWINGS WELCOME BY APPOINTMENT ONLY /// ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AND VIDEOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST
EQUIPMENT
Special Sapphire Black metallic paintwork, Black and Grey 'Limited' leather upholstery, 5-litre V8 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch Evo-Design alloy wheels, Heated electric front sports seats with memory, Self-dimming rear view mirror, Electric tilt and slide sunroof, Electric windows all round, Climatic air conditioning, Electrically adjustable steering column, Electric rear window sunblind, Front central armrest, Infrared remote central locking, Original E500 leather document pouch, Original E500 Limited sales brochure, Full size spare wheel, Warning triangle.
EXTERIOR
Hand-assembled by Porsche and endowed with a powerful 5.0 V8, the E500 is one of the ultimate 90s Q-cars. Finished in Sapphire Black Metallic over grey, this particular example is one of only a few hundred 'Limited' models built towards the end of the E500's production run. Looking around the car the very dark blue paintwork presents to a high standard with a deep shine and little more than a few minor chips and discreetly touched-in blemishes to evidence the mileage. The headlights are crystal clear and the original Evo-Design alloy wheels are excellent with no major kerb marking to report. Having resided on the salt-free roads of Japan for most of its life the underside of the car is also well presented.
INTERIOR
A treat for surely any Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, the E500's well-appointed interior is a great place to be. Open the door and you're greeted by heated electric Recaro seats in striking leather upholstery that's unique to the Limited model. The bolsters are generally excellent but some patination to the centre panels is visible. There are no cracks on the dash, the headlining is unmarked, and the wood veneers have a great shine although a keen eye will note some lifting lacquer on the centre console. Out on the road everything feels nice and solid with no annoying rattles or creaks, further testament to the superb fit and finish that Mercedes of this vintage are so well known for.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
At the heart of the E500 is of course the 5-litre Mercedes-Benz V8. The engine bay here is really well presented, not overly dressed but in excellent original condition with no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair. The car has very recently returned from a full engine strip and rebuild to the tune of £7,700; this work was completed by Nickson Motorsport in September 2024 less than 150 miles ago.
HISTORY FILE
This rare E500 Limited was built in May 1994. It was delivered new as a company vehicle one month later before finding its way to Japan in approximately 1995. In 2016 it was imported into the UK by a London-based specialist and since then it has seen only 2 private keepers. The current owner of 7 years has used and enjoyed the car for the last few thousand miles, and during his custodianship it has been looked after by both Mercedes-Benz Guildford and Nickson Motorsport in Chiddingfold. In 2023, £4,425 was spent at Mercedes on refreshing the front brakes along with various suspension components, and most recently the car benefits from a full engine strip and rebuild with a new timing chain, skimmed heads, etc.
Within the accompanying History File the lucky new owner will receive the original E500 Limited leather document wallet pouch with handbooks, an original German-market E500 Limited sales brochure, a raft of maintenance invoices totalling more than £18k since 2016, MOT certificates, the current V5C showing only 2 former keepers, and a spec sheet detailing the car's factory options and further verifying its authenticity with option code 958 (""special model - Limited"").
Please visit our website for a full write up and additional photographs.
Three-month warranty included. Worldwide shipping is available on request.

This car spent time in Japan at some point, note the "Exh Temp" warning indicator. But it probably wasn't an original Japan-delivery vehicle, since there's an E/S switch present. Need VIN to confirm. Wrong (non-036) headlight lenses, btw.

Bigger question is, what was the supposed £8k "engine rebuild"? Might have just been timing chain guide rails, but if it was anything more... why? No M119 should need major repairs with 100kkm on the odo.

:pc1:

Looking at their website, Nickson Motorsport mainly offer bodyshell, roll cages and welding, no mention of engine "repairs"

I agree with @036, from Europe imported to Japan afterwards; the "Exh Temp" warning indicator is untypical, unusually small, clearly a later add-on

Probably a dumb question but is that for exhaust temperature monitoring? If so, under what conditions does it function?

Not a dumb question at all. I think it's explained somewhere down in this thread:
Thanks, I also found this thread with more details and some informative posts by @chicky:

Overall, it seems to be a temp sensor (presumably) after the cats to check for safe and correct operation as a requirement for the Japanese market. I’m surprised lambda sensors don’t or didn’t have a temp sensor included by default.

Limited was offered only in Germany and Switzerland. Any other country got it as grey import.
Not entirely true....
On the basis of the complete list of 951 VIN's with the 958 code (kindly provided on here by @WDB748372 on Aug.25, 2025) I did some research (by order location and order #) and came to the following:

719 units (75.6%) were ordered in Germany, including Company Vehicles (44 units), Company employees (6 units), Authorities Sales (5 units), Factory Sales (4 units) and Foreign Diplomats (4 units).

82 units (8.6%) were ordered in Switzerland (of which 64 units to the german language parts, 12 units to the french language parts and 6 units to the italian speaking parts of the country).

  • 41 units (4.3%) were ordered in Russia
  • 22 units (2.3%) in Dubai
  • 13 units (1.4%) in Austria
  • 13 units in Sudan
  • 11 units in Abu Dhabi
  • 9 units in Israel
  • 7 units in Italy
  • 7 units in Croatia
  • 5 units in Belgium
  • 5 units in The Netherlands
  • 4 units in Oman
  • 3 units in the USA
  • 2 units in Mexico
  • 2 units in Sweden
  • 1 in Canada
  • 1 in Luxemburg
  • 1 in Quatar
  • 1 in Romania
  • 1 in the UK (=C148950)
  • 1 in Saudi Arabia.

For those interested: the 3 USA ordered units are: C119994, C149478 and C149919. The Canadian one is C144809.

From one of the originally Belgium ordered ones, the destination (and ordernumber) changed in between (before delivery) to The Netherlands.

For the German ordered units I also have a breakdown by MB branch/city, which I'm happy to provide separately. May be this is all info for the Wiki pages on here. The above 951 units are exclusive of the 1 known Limited prototype (C011620).
