A 6 liter car for $29k would be a total steal….kind of doubt that it has the bigger engine unless the seller doesn’t know much about these cars

Can someone in the US check if this VIN of this car is a Renntech modification to 6 liter?
Has this VIN appeared here on the 500Eboard before?

This was brought into the US as a standard US E500 model, nothing special. If it was modified, it would have been after the fact.

Looks to me like a standard E500 with a RENNtech airbox installed.

No prior record of this car in my personal database. Doesn't appear that this car has been on the forum before, at least by VIN search.

Can someone in the US check if this VIN of this car is a Renntech modification to 6 liter?
No. RENNtech does not track vehicles by VIN. Only way to check would be a test drive and inspection by a shop that knows how to tell if it's a 6.0L or not.

Has this VIN appeared here on the 500Eboard before?
No.

The license plate on the car belongs to a 2011 Jeep, not the E500. No records on AutoCheck for 7 years after the total-loss accident, then a title in early 2020, and registered in CT in spring 2021. Hmmm. Pretty likely to have a salvage title. Photo shows 260k on the odometer, not 245k as claimed in the ad. Nice airbox though. Appears to be a Remus muffler. Stock radiator too. No sign of a 6.0L although that doesn't mean it isn't...

Yeah, if this had a 6.0, Im pretty sure Jimbo would have bought it before it ever appeared on the forum.
Truth Dave ! 👍

This unfortunately is another scam coming out of my beloved state.

That CF RennTECH box clearcoat should be all brown and desiccated from the heat with the miles and age. It was just put on for the 'sale'.

It would turn out to be a 'total steal' of your money TimL if you tried to buy this car. Thank me now. :cool1:

Contacted the seller, he confessed he had no receipts for RennTech mods and that he did the mods himself, it’s “his hobby”
Thanks for confirming! The seller really needs to remove the "6.0" reference. An E500E with some RENNtech accessories is completely different than a car which received the 6.0 engine conversion.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

:welcome4:

Obviously not a RennTech and history is off. RennTech will give you a COA of sorts if its a car that they have worked on but they have to have hands on it for the inspection

Found on Facebook market place, not much info. Renntech airbox, AMG wheels and possibly Renntech exhaust.

I live around the corner from where it's being sold so happy put the overalls on and go over for a look for anybody. I'll ring the seller to get the scoop on the car to satisfy my own curiosity later this morning and update the thread!

Merged threads on same car. Odometer has not budged one tenth in 2.5 years... I'm going with busted odo and TMU.

Also, there are no titles or registrations since 2021, so either it's the same seller from 2022, or it's being sold on a skipped title.

Salvage, TMU, transmission & suspension problems... asking price is optimistic IMO.

:pc1:

Initial scoop: It's being sold on consignment by 'Coastline Auto' in Bridgeport on behalf of the owner who 'just wants rid of it'. Interior re done recently, no rust, paint 8/10. Current owner is the same guy as listed above from two years ago. Needs linkage sorted, door lock vacuum lines to replace, the aftermarket air intake to replace, front suspension work - control arms, driven approx. 3000 miles in last few years (according to the dealer). They weren't able to elaborate about the transmission issue aside from guessing that it's a cable or vacuum line. He had no idea about the wiring harness, Who knows what else!

Interesting. "Just wants rid of it" could translate into a decent deal for someone who could turn a wrench.

Are you going to take it for a spin?

:3gears:

The dealer offered me to have a look anytime - but probably not for me, we need the extra seat! Happy to look for anybody else though and take some videos and pictures - especially underneath!

Couple of things I noticed:
  • Mileage hasn't moved since the 2022 pictures, meaning odo is broken
  • Wrong (red) oil dipstick
  • Wrong turn signals (missing US mandated orange side reflectors)
  • Front license plate filler for US plate is missing
  • Corrosion on valve covers especially on the driver's side
  • Front door panel leather is too smooth (compare front/rear panels in picture 7)
Also, is that a W210 shifter?

Yep, looks like a W210 shift knob. Pity the front filler panel vanished since the 2023 photos.

The wrong (red-handle) oil dipstick needs to be replaced ASAP. I believe that one is too short, which can lead to over-filling the crankcase.

Latest Carfax attached.

So, considering the good, bad and potentially ugly, what's a fair market value for this car?
Hard to say without getting it on a lift and inspecting the undercarriage. The car has been in snow-belt cities since new. I'll eat my hat if there's "no rust" as the dealer claims. Maybe no visible rust when standing 10 feet away, but the entire underside could be brown.

:hornets:

The red engine oil dipstick is from a W124 E300 Diesel, replace it immediately with the original M119-036 dipstick and check the engine oil level asap.

The dipstick from the M119.98x engines also have a red handle. This one is shorter than the 119.97x dipstick and could result in the oil level being too high.

@TML89 if you can get a photo of the numbers on the dipstick, we can figure out what engine it belongs to.
