I agree on the asking price being in the stratosphere for a car with 150K on the clock. Maybe if it had only 50K would the asking price be appropriate. If it was equipped with SLS that would be a rare bird indeed. I really like the back interior over the usual beige offering. Wonder if the ortho seat still works after all these years.

Front engine cover is not missing, so that's a plus.

When it comes down to the price, well I wouldn't sell my 400E for less. That's why it's staying with me. :)

No IR key on this one, missing memory function in the passenger seat, independent heating (webasto) and trip computer. So not fully loaded. LAIR!

Your confusing a USA spec car for a ROW car. No IR was available in the US, no memory on passenger door in US, no webasto and no trip computer in the US. It is basically loaded for a USA spec W124

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know and I'm a little bit surprised by this.

ASR, heated seats, ortho on driver seat only (not both), roller blind... nice! Can't tell if it has rear reading lamps.

Black interior was rare in USA with Smoke Silver, but for some reason it was more common in Canada.

After adjusting to miles (97kmi odometer) and USD (~$19k) it's only mild lunacy, not total.

:ROFLMAO:

So true!

I don't like the wheels and wonder how the car qualified for Collector Plates with them. Car must be 25 years or older and unmolested to qualify and that includes an original head unit. I will venture to say the car lived its entire life in Richmond BC and would barely have a stone chip on it because it doesn't get driven on a freeway. I live less than 10 km from Richmond. Maintenance record from day one is a plus and most likely means the car stayed with first owner for a long time.

Given that it was built for the US market and sold in the US, it did not live its entire life in Canada.

The car probably moves for $20k, which seems a fair number to me, actually. You can have one of these to drive for the next 15 years or what? You’ll be out that much cash on a 3 year lease on a modern EClass with no V8 or anything special. We have one in the garage... car is fine… it’s not special… there’s no way I’d pay what my wife pays for it. I‘d buy something like this for cash first.

maw

Collector Plates are relatively easy to get here so in my opinion holds not much weight. Car could still be a mechanical roll of the dice as collector plates only speak to cosmetics based on carefully curated pics you supply. Until you need to claim and ICBC starts to scrutinize every nook and cranny. Not worth the headache.

No SLS on that car.
Rik is correct, no SLS... there's no hydraulic fluid reservoir in the engine compartment. SLS was an extremely rare, special-order option in North America. I've only seen two VIN's with SLS in USA.

It's also a USA model, so could easily be brought back into the US
AFAICT it appears to be an original Canadian-delivery car, complete with kph speedometer, but we'd need the VIN to confirm. It's 25+ years old so bringing it into USA wouldn't be difficult.

Hmm, if it was, it would not have a NHTSA emissions decal under the hood. The only time I have seen this on Canadian vehicles is when it has been imported from the US.

I believe USA and Canadian cars shared the same yellow emission decal by 1994-95, although I'm not 100% positive. Here's the decal on my USA-spec E420, note that it references both USA and Canada:

500E Board fact checkers strike again!! Learn something new every day.

^^^ This might be why I can ever only find AMG production for North American delivery, never US separate from Canada. MB probably harmonized emissions for the continent instead of the country, which makes too much sense. It's what I would do anyway.

Ok, going to have to admit I am wrong. I attend many Mercedes car shows in BC and these emission decals are not present on many cars I have seen, normally if I see them, it is assumed it is a US import.

I had to dig for this, but managed to find some pictures in my stash of a Canadian spec (and delivered) 500E from 1992. It also sports the emission decal, in black not yellow and also has the fuel type in French and the shifter decal is also duplicated in French. The fuel type in French is also inside the full filler door, although I don't have a picture of it. These additional decals are mandated by Canada, along with daytime running lights.

The black decal on the 034/036 indicated a "49-state" car that did not have a CEL in the instrument cluster, nor a DM to control the CEL. But, I don't know if any of those went to Canada. Best I can tell, all 036 switched to yellow+CEL by mid-1992 USA model year but the 034 still had some black/non-CEL sold through possibly the end of 1993 model year / end of pre-facelift production. A bit more info is here.

I don't know the production date of the silver 500E. I also don't know exactly what the emission decals says, but looking at the lines of script, it seems to match what the early US 500E's had written on them.

Here is the VIN of the silver Canadian 500E if you want to decode WDBEA36EXNB797651
