Figure I'd record this link here in case there is anyone interested or can post more information on this one. Allegedly one of the 12 957/958 if there is such a thing. VIN not shown. As I have now learned exactly what the limited package is on a W124500 not ready now or ever to pay that premium for the LTD. package over the AMG Package. Still very interesting and rare machine.

We need to STOP propagating this "one of 12" 957/958 cars. It's blatantly incorrect, and was proven so years ago.

FAR more than that were made -- 45 in total with 957+958 on the factory data cards. And probably more were Limited models that were converted to 6.0 after they were sold.

We actually have a list (factory data) of all VIN numbers of these cars, posted here:

Please use this for reference in the future, when you see it pop up on web sites with the "1 or 12" myth -- post a link to this thread above. It DEFINITIVELY disproves the "one of 12" myth..

I would send them an email with a link to that VIN post that debunks their statement.

Completely agree that a LTD package is just a vanity package -- doesn't really add anything performance wise.

The Twelve debate has been raging for years. There's still a faint possibility that 12 were built like this from the factory, before delivery to a dealership. And that the rest (30+) were Limiteds converted to 6.0L by AMG, post-delivery, with the datacard updated (changed). Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to tell either way, although I'm not sure I'd care if I owned one.

But yeah, every dealer who has a car with both option codes repeats "One of Twleve"!

Sigh.

Hey, they're fishing.
Can't blame a fisherman for using his best bait regardless of veracity.
Lots of fish in the sea, some aren't very bright...

This is a variant of where I think the mythical "1 of 12" came from i.e. perhaps MB built/converted 12 from new before any order from a dealer and/or customer (and as we know a dealer or customer ordered one could be built/converted new, before delivery).....based on all the homework I did that's the only possibility I can think of, since we all know there were more than 12 with codes 957+958.

While some people like the 958 (Limited), I have gone back and forth on it. Sometimes I like it and think it makes the car more modern (like some later two tone AMG's or some Audi's) and sometimes I prefer the monotone traditional interiors. Initially the 958 on one of the E60's I looked at swayed me away from buying it, then later I liked it and seemed to be more interesting car to me, then it went the other way again etc.
As we all know its purely a matter of taste (as are exterior colors). Funny enough on an E500E (vs. E60) I like the 958 (Limited) and have not wavered....go figure.

How much $$ was the 958 code back in the day?
Someone would have to have an MB "PKW-Verkaufs-Taschenbuch" from the 1993-1994 time frame to get the pricing for this. Unfortunately, my own book is from October 1990, which includes all of the options pricing for the early 500E models, but is too early for later options like 957 and 958 that were phased in later in the .036 production.

I agree with Dave and msq, there is a high chance that similar to the E60 (Factory vs Retrofit); the E60 LTD is 1of12 for factory delivered cars while more were E500 LTD converted after delivery.
We can find out from the documentation, but as most of these cars on the international market are bought from export auctions in you know where, there is no documentation for us to for authentication.

When I get my production letter I will ask the provider about this 1 of 12 Myth. Still does not justify the exorbitant premium these dealers want to ask for the +958 portion of the E60 platform.

As with any classic/exotic car, the rarity and exclusivity commands a higher premium. Yes the price difference is very high But It has to have the documentation to back the claim.

I have seen a factory E60 Limited. It can be confirmed with the method I described in the Factory E60 thread.
