Yes, it is possible, if you don't mind cutting a hole in the dust shield at the ball joint area, AND grinding several mm (3-5mm?) off the face of the old/early LCA. There must be a minimum of 2mm air gap, or the rotor will rub on the LCA when cornering. I don't like this modification and personally do not recommend it, but I know other people have done it.
Generally it's preferred to replace the LCA with new OE/Genuine late style, as the old/early LCA's are usually tired after 25+ years. New late-style LCA's will likely last another 200kmi / 25+ years.
