WANTED 500E Hood Hinges

Hi All,

I did something really gut wrenching today…I had my hood completely open in the service position and was doing some work on the engine, I stupidly opened the garage door without thinking and this had caused signifcant damage to the hood hinges and now the hood does not close properly anymore.

I was reading some previous threads and looks like I need the L + R hood hinges before I give it to a collision shop.

I checked the P/N and they are NLA.

Wondering if anyone here has a spare set they’re willing to part with? I checked eBay but the majority of them are in EU.

I believe the part numbers are 1248800328 and 1248800428

Thank you!

You can get the earlier w124 hinges --- they work, just no locking mechanism.

Sorry to hear this. It happens though.

Yeah, I think these are just standard W124 hinges. Should be able to get them off of any wrecked W124. Perhaps a forum member has a wrecked car and can cannibalize the set.

Correct - the hinges are the same across all 124's (only difference is the locking mechanism, which varied by production date).

When I needed a couple of hinges, I raided the local junkyard. It's not too difficult to remove them. @Beater400E might be able to snag some if there are 124's in the yards with undamaged front ends. Just make sure they are tight, with no play, as discussed here.

Thank you guys appreciate the responses…it is definitely a heartbreaking lesson for me, if the door was 1 inch higher then it would have completely been fine, actually surprised how much power the garage door had to completely bend the hinges.

Ideally I’m looking for lock hinges, they make working on the car so much easier. Please do let me know if anyone is selling any.

Thank you so much.

I have a 500E hood at the house in florida, but I can't remember if the the hinges are still on it. If you don't find any before I return to the USA on 20th , I'll let you know when I return.

Still looking? I just picked up a pair today. These came off a 91, and appear to be in good shape. They are the locking style.
