722.3 transmission rebuilder in Illinois?

What is wrong with the transmission now?

If you have time to DIY... there are enough good YouTube videos available now that it's become more feasible to do it yourself, for a fraction of the cost. But, it will probably take a few dozen hours. Right, @Seangbadee ? If you don't have the time or inclination, paying Sun Valley is likely the best option.

thank you, ill check them out

I had good luck with Sun Valley on a 722.6 for my S320. One shop in town absolutely refused to install someone else’s transmission and they wanted $7000 to rebuild it. I ended up at the dealer who initially gave me a reasonable estimate—until the car was apart and they decided to extort me to flush the cooling system (really). I was out of town, though I guess it wouldn’t have mattered. The Valeo radiator failed and allowed coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. This was a known defect on certain S320s that used the Valero radiator and they knew this was the reason for the transmission swap but they waited until it was apart to give me the new estimate. If I recall correctly they charged me 6.2 hours to flush the cooling system. Why people hate the dealers. The tech was someone I respected and had dealt with for over two decades so I’m thinking it was the service advisor who decided to do the gouging. The tech could have been in on it though. My experience is that service advisors are worse than attorneys or used car salesmen. Whatever they think they can extract from you is justified in their mind.

If you decide to go the Sun Valley route make absolutely certain you nail down the shop that does the swap and discuss any “while you’re in there” items that they could call you about so you don’t start out at $1500 and wind up paying twice as much to get your car back.
