Mercedes C126 500SEC
So is this the one with VIN (WDB1260442A487450 - colour combo 929/268) you inquired about for the option codes?
It actually looks pretty good and solid.
Do you have the VIN for the 560SEC (904/262)too?

Correct, I'm just dipping my toe into the water at the moment and wouldn't consider buying a potential non-runner from a barn find auction.

Here is the VIN decode for the 560:

I understand, it is a risky situation, if you can't know how these cars have been maintained whatsoever.

Thank you so much! BTW this 560SEC doesn't have ASR either - plus code 256 for LSD not showing, because this item was standard on all 560 models.

The 560 is already bid up to £9250 and the 500 is £6250
Wow, I've just looked into the site, and the 560 appears as 'sold' for above £17k. Maybe your browser's cache is showing an older version and needs to get refreshed (!?)

Sorry, do you mean code 256 for LSD is standard on all 560s?

If it is not showing did the original purchaser requested it not to be fitted?

I have just started reading Nik Green's Buying and Maintaining a 126 S-Class book last night so I'm sure I will know a lot more when I finish it 📖

The bidding is ongoing for all lots until the time expires in lot sequence.

Yes, it went for £20,285 including fees which is insane money for a project car.

Some options which are standard on a specific chassis, will not show in the datacard. As an example, for all 124.036 chassis, code 471 ASR is not on the datacard because all 124.036 have ASR/471 as standard equipment.

It's possible that the same could apply to the 560 if all came standard with 256/LSD.

This couldn't be made for the 560 models, at least in Europe. It was a take it or live it deal.

Unsure whether USA/JP might have been different - e.g. 256/LSD not being supplied. As I think, some cars in the 70/80s lack the anti-squat/levelling parts (present on the rear suspension in Europe) for those markets.

Correct.
And for instance, any W124 prior to 09/1988 with 4-cylinder engines did not have ABS as standard in Europe.

While 6-cylinders cars began to have it as standard around 12/1986-03/1987 - between those frame times, SA-code did not show up on datacards for 260/300-models although present, but if any 200/230/250 model didn't feature ABS-code then it lacked this option.

same could apply to the 560 if all came standard with 256/LSD
Yes Dave, that's exactly how it works.

I failed at reading comprehension earlier today
No worries at all :)
