advanced photoshop/product photography help?

Hi - anyone have advanced photoshop/photography skills?

I need help - been busting myself with this one for weeks and I'm throwing in the towel. Either ends up fake or blown out.

Product photography for the GF's side project. Off-white colored product in a white light-box background. It is retarded difficult. Two primary issues: having difficulty clipping background white without losing the "shadow" of the product, which leads to second issue, making it look consistent with the other products (darker colored in white, light box background). Horrible combo, and sadly, alternatives don't exist. Help? Advice?

Thanks.

If no-one here is able to help, I'd suggest going to http://www.reddit.com/r/picrequests

Be careful, though, this can happen too:
