Have traced issue with ambient temperature gauge reading accurately then 20 degrees below actual temperature to unit in dash
Looking for a working replacement.
Thx

eBay has plenty of them for sale. You can also get them new from MB. I don’t think I have any used ones left.

Thanks. Did get one from eBay. Didn’t fit. I’ll go to MB. 👍
How did it not fit? The 124 temp displays are all the same size. Very early ones only have 4 pins though... maybe you got one of those? New from MB was obscenely expensive last I checked. I might have a good one somewhere, the challenge will be locating it...

:tumble:

Yep, last I checked they are pushing $1K new. I used to sell them for $20-25 each when I could get them from wrecked cars, but they’ve totally dried up over the past 2 years.

You just need to get one from a 124 from 1988 or 1989 onward. 1992 or later preferred.

You probably got sold one from a 126 instead, which is a bit larger than the 124 unit and doesn't fit into the 124 instrument cluster. Either that or as the @gsxr mentioned, there is a different connector for the first couple of years of the W124 before they transitioned to an identically sized but electrically more advanced unit.

Just looked at what was sent.
5 pins and thinner display than what is on my dash.

That is a FOUR-PIN unit. Four metal contact pins, plus a plastic connector/locator pin.

The number in the EPC shows that it was only for the earlier (model year 1986 and 1987) cars.

You'll need to get a five-pin unit for the later cars. The later units have five metal contact pins, in a completely different arrangement than the earlier units.

Take a look at my units for sale thread, and you'll see the difference.

The unit that you are showing the box with the part number of, as well as the back of the unit with the "square" connector showing the four pins at the corner of the square.

That unit IS NOT going to fit into a 500E. ONLY the one with the five metal pins in an in-line configuration will fit the E500E.

You can clearly see these in the thread that I linked to, above, where I've been able to offer many for sale in past years.

:update:
Here is a photo of a proper five-prong unit that will fit into any E500E, taken from my linked thread:
