I didn’t think I’d feel the urge so soon after selling my E500 Limited but it’s here and I’ve decided the next 036 I purchase needs to be an E60, after wanting one for so long

I do need the help of this community and any/all contacts in sourcing a car

Grateful for any/all leads so please do PM me, TIA!

Just curious, does it have to be an original AMG-built car? Or do you just want the 6.0L driving experience? It may be quite a bit less expensive to buy a nice 036 and then have a 6L engine built & installed. Nowadays, the code-957 cars are commanding serious premiums. £130k ($175k USD!) is a lotta spaghetti. You could make your own 6L car for ±£80k / ±$100k USD (depending on the cost of the 036) and it will be just as fun to drive.

Dave, before I sold my E500 Limited I thought long and hard about converting it to 6.0 as everything about the car was near on perfect, including the chassis and suspension.

That said, I’ve always yearned for an original E60, be that a 957 car or a post delivery converted car.

There are plenty of cars that give a thrilling driving experience aside from the E60, many of those have been in my garage including E55 or C63 for example.

So this is more about owning something with the history and provenance having been at Porsche, AMG and MB in its life and the crème de la crème of W124.

Prices can be astronomical and I’m willing to be realistic. Out of the 148 cars with code 957 I could only document c50, so there are lots of cars out there still. That excludes the conversion cars (from my research there are no records re how many of those exist).

Hello all. As many of you now know, I have recently begun my search for an E60 AMG (& what an exciting journey it already has been!!). In my spare time, I have been collating data/information about existing cars from using sources such as this forum, Google searches and other forums.

I am doing this mostly to understand/track the values (the values on these cars are all over the place by the way) and for the second reason to maintain records, in the case I come face to face with a car for sale so I have an idea of what might have happened in the past with that particular car with respect to its condition, mileage and any relevant notes such as accident damage etc.

Anyway, out of the 148 cars, I have been fortunate enough to document a fair few of these cars with my limited research and assessments. Unfortunately, whilst I have managed so far to document 52 cars, I have not been able to find data on some 96 cars, the VINs listed below.

Does anyone on this board have information regarding any of the following E60s? I would also be pleased to connect with members of this community on a one on one basis. Thanks in advance.

Its about 100k now? OMG... there goes my dream...
That's including the cost of a nice E500E! The engine alone would be very roughly 1/3 of that (varies depending if you buy a good used engine, or shell out for a brand new build).

:spend:

I just stumbled across this car - doesn't have code 957 on the VIN decode although it is described as an Affalterbach build.

@e500.org is this car already known to you?

@R129 UK thanks for raising this. I am aware of this car, it appears to be very well maintained and it was sold in the past by Bernard Weiss of German Car Net so I would imagine it’s got very good bones. 040 to boot, too.

The lack of 957 code doesn’t necessarily put me off as being a documented AMG conversion car in my eyes it’s still a genuine E60 but the high mileage (nearly 300,000km) makes me apprehensive a little, particularly compared with the asking price. It appears to be open to offers so who knows if it sits around whether we could make a deal closer to reflect the mileage.

BTW high mileage doesn’t generally scare me off but with the chassis travelled that much (and given the background of the car, most of it in Europe, where they salt roads etc) it’s likely the car will have some wear and tear reflecting that. Being in the US makes it difficult to inspect (although I do have a trip coming up to Brazil in September so in theory could make the journey).

The same vendor (Patina Collective) also have available for sale a 500E 6.0 documented car (also not 957 code, unfortunately) that looks much nicer due to the substantially lower mileage. I do not know to what extent the mileage on this car is documented though and the asking price is quite a hike.
