There is a 1992 500E with ca. 62k miles on it in Portland Oregon for sale on Ebay. Anyone know anything about it?

I do not know the car. Looks like a good honest car with low miles and lacking any tasteless mods. I know the dealer and can inspect for anyone who is interested. The dealer sells used exotica including Porsche, Mercedes, etc and recently became an offical Lambo dealer. Our local MB club has a show and picnic there every year.

They've had this car for sale for a long time and it's been mentioned both on this board and on Scott's board. It's a consignment car well-documented in my database.
Bottom line is that it's an honest car, and generally the dealer selling it has good, but often overpriced, stuff. But they are going to want a lot of money for it. I seem to recall it being priced $5-7K too high, particularly in this market. No one should have to pay more than $15-17K for a top-notch car (<75K miles, stock, major items replaced, all papers) in this market. $20K should get you a very low-mileage, and near top (i.e. showable) car. If you are, you're either not negotiating hard enough, or not looking hard enough.
Unfortunately, these "dealers" tend to price their cars too high in hopes of some sucker coming along and falling in love. Far better to use the classifieds here and on Scott's board to find the right car and do a private sale. That way you avoid the dealer markup & hassles. Sure the car might not be as pretty as a dealer's dolled-up car, but you also won't be paying for that crap at the same time.
My two cents.
Cheers,
Gerry
