ATE Brake Discs

Folks, I just bought one of my daughters a 2022 Tiguan SE SUV to replace an older one with quite high mileage. Its a very nice example with only 25K miles that I found at the MB/BMW/Mini/Honda dealership where I work part time. They buy only top shelf vehicles at auction and I'm pleased with the deal.

The rear brake pads are near their limit as far as I can see so I'll do pads and discs before we take it out to her. I've got factory pads on the way but bought ATE rotors as there was a large price difference and I'm running ATE front rotors on the E320 which I think are high quality. But... my rotors were made in Germany and the VW rotors come from China. No mention of COO on the AutohausAZ website by the way.

I'm thinking of returning them but wanted to ask if anyone has experience with Chinese ATE rotors or any info about them.

Tks,

Peter

Peter, is the rotor thickness below the service minimum, or otherwise in need of replacement (grooved, discolored, etc)? With only 25kmi it's likely the factory VW rotors may be just fine to use with new pads.

My first choice for rotors is OE but many MB OE rotors are NLA now. Second choice is Zimmerman. Ate is third on the list. Unfortunately I have no experience with Ate rotors made in China.

:hornets:

Dave, I haven't measured the rotors but you are likely correct. I just have a habit of replacing rotors on my brake jobs as the cost is not high and then I don't worry down the road. I've probably tossed rotors in the trash that had lots of life left.

Regards,

Peter
