Damn it was hot. I need to save the car a bit (not that it was overheating or burning oil) from the heat and skip the late Summer events. Although I reserved a space in a garage, it's first come fist serve and there was a large turnout and all spaces were taken, plus I got to the track late and ended up parking the car under the sun in over 100F+ weather.
This track is better than the Willow Springs tracks I've been on; the tarmac is smooth, no gravel runoffs, much faster speeds, quick and short apexes in turns, the top sections of the infield grandstands have canopies so a lot of shade is there when watching the track, normal bathrooms vs. porta potties, onsite gas station, closer to my home - to name a few.
This time I decided to throw the car around a bit more...and I definitely need a square wheel setup and sticky tires. The car ran great otherwise and I was able to open up a bit on the banking and straightaways, the length of both allowed for enough time to push the car and time to brake. I'll take a look at the new LCA next week and see how they held up, I ended up running a total of 18 laps. So I feel this is going to be the track I will most likely attend more so, plus taking time off mid week to go racing is not that easy and having a Sunday to recoup never hurts.
This time, a larger group of people recognized the car and when I mean large, 15 compared to 2 is large, who know of the 036 and 8 out of the 15 were Porsche owners - I got a ton of compliments ("badass" and "cool car" were the adjectives I heard the most) and it was kind of cool to get them while at a track. Everyone was very pleased to see one taken to the track, as one guy put it "You got to take these bad boys out to play and stretch their legs a bit" and I couldn't agree more.
I didn't have my work phone with me, so all pics (aside from me driving) and videos were taken by a few coworkers who came out to watch. The pics of me driving were done by an onsite photography group who can also rent and setup their video cameras in any car (inside or outside the car, or both at the same time), as well as shooting a video of you driving on the track, so maybe for the next event I might try them. I just haven't justified the need for a really good camera for just a few track days per year, nor the need for a camera in general.
