I just received this message. This is an attempted scam. Be careful out there.

This may seem obvious to many, but for those who arent as familiar there are a few red flags here.

First, I am looking for a pair of cams, but I have a wanted listing in the forum. I would have expected a response on that post, rather than just a private message out of the blue.

The private message might not have been an immediate red flag, but the request to contact via an outside email is another red flag. I quick check also shows that this person just joined the forum moments before sending me the message. Almost as if they joined just to send this message.

Finally, I googled the email handle "thankfulalways780" and found numerous other suspicious posts and even reports of scam attempts.

Always do your due diligence and be cautious out there.

ha, I was just gonna post about this but you beat me to it.

It’s not uncommmon to get a DM from scammers that looks exactly like the one this person sent.

You’ll notice that they pretty much always ask to send them an email and the message always comes from a brand new account, without failure.

☺️ I got an offer on a Sportline steering wheel from that "thing" this morning.

Talking SPAM and fraud business, just try to be prepared for the ongoing AI-race. That sh..t is really concerning stuff, and do we need it - actually not.

Fortunately, 99.5% of automated spam attempts are captured and no one ever sees them. We have four levels of security and countermeasures, including a couple of databases where all new registrants are compared to for their username, IP address and e-mail address against known/past spammers. Separately we have a system (folks should be able to click the link toward the top of the screen and see "Spaminator Log" that captures and eliminates all automated spam registrations initiated by "bots". I think we have nearly 95,000 automated spammer registration attempts over the past few years.

The very few ones that get through are actual people, who spend the time to register and then physically post crap replies or threads. Unfortunately there is no way to get around a person who is manually doing this, except intercepting it on the rare occasions when our systems do not intercept and hold the suspicious post for moderator approval.

Very interestingly, we have had three spammers who have gotten through and posted threads/replies in the past week or so. Two of the spammer accounts were registered years ago (one in 2016, and one in 2021 I believe), so these are "reactivated" by the spammers after a period of hibernation so that the suspicions go down, and they fly under the radar for a long period of time. Again, these "sleeper accounts" are fairly few and far between, but it is very difficult to combat this on the very rare occasions when it occurs.

One thing I do when dealing with people selling stuff over social media is ask for a video call to see the parts. Another is to ask them to post a picture with their user name next to the said part.

Lots of these guys just steal picture and offer stuff for stupid cheap prices. Sadly, many people fall for this crap.

I do the same. Google image search is really handy for stuff like this. Usually, when you ask for a photo with something daed from that day they go away.

Hello beater400E :)

You are not alone in experiencing that ... I too had 2 similar incidents ... they're out there 🤬 ... forum members BEWARE !!!

A bit out of context, but I'm just saying - AI here we go! People may not fathom what AI will do to the human race, and not if but when, it developes in the wrong direction and out of control ends up in the wrong hands. The most common features in the infrastructure can be picked apart & manipulated digitally and reorganized with no reliability, no true facts. And while I am in a momentary Nostradamus mode - please stop buying all kind of Chinese garbage, it keeps that nation growing and depleting the global industry at any level.
