Bosch Vs. Champion sparkplugs

When i changed sparkplugs in my E420 i saw it was the "bad/resistor" Bosch FR8DC in it. All the partsstore in Sweden recomend these horribly wrong sparkplugs. I ordered a set of 8, fresh Bosch F8DC4.

This time however i ordered direkt from MB-germany and when i got them i saw it was the non resistor Champion C11YCC. I did some research to se wich of these two that suits the 500 better. The differens i saw was that the Champion had double copper core on its terminal type (just copper core on the Bosch). I also saw that copper is better material for heat conduct. So 1-0 to Champion then (?). I also saw that terminal type was M4 thread on the Bosch and fixed terminal on the Champion. Is there any differens here? Does it mean that you are able to unscrew the terminal on the Bosch and not on the Champion?

So far i have concluded that the Champion (on paper) will resist heat slightly more. My second thought is: Wich one is the best? Is it like the distributor caps? When you order them original you will not get Bosch wich is the better one? Should i run Bosch or Champions? Why do not Mercedes recommend the best possible brand (like the case of the distributor) ?

Good Questions, was it not possible to order these Champion Spark Plugs or non-resistor Bosch outside the dealer?

If i ordered thru my local MB-dealer i got the non resistor ones but since i don´t like them i never order any parts from them whatsoever. If i buy thru other (non MB) parts stores that
have Bosch they only have the ones with resistor and they even recomend them.

In the case of the distributor caps and rotors i have heard that Bosch is better and lasts longer than the brand you get when you order directly from MB (Beru Bremi?). This sounds strange and i wonder if so is the case with the sparkplugs also (Bosch is better than Champion but Champion is the ones MB give me)?

Aha, then we wait for you to report on the difference after using the non-resistor spark plugs

Just my opinion...the Champion copper core plugs will work fine and you shouldn't notice any performance difference from the Bosch plugs. Whether Bosch or Champion, the only important fact is that they are non-resistor.

Bosch, beru, and champion are sold.. fine. Ngk also makes good plus.

I have had more problems w champions sticking as they are zinc instead of cad plating..

A SMALL dab of anti-seize will cure that problem. Also, pay close attention to torque specs. Alum vs. steel is a loser if over tightened.

+1. Non-resistor is the important part. I'm a little allergic to champignon (:mushroom:) so I tend to go for the Bosch, which are still available cheap (under $2 each in USA). FYI, factory spec is replacement every 30kmi.

Preference is whatever came in the car from factory. Ford get spotlight, jag get champion and porsche, mb get Bosch.

My owner's manual lists Bosch, Beru, and Champion as suitable spark plug options.

I didn't know that Champion still made a compatible plug for our application.
