May I ask if someone knows the part numbers between 500E European Orange and 500E US Yellow lights?

I also read a reference to "TYC" (I gather this is an aftermarket brand)?

I would like to fit the orange once (yes I know there is no reflector) if possible.

Thanks

I think these may be what you are asking

124 826 00 43 left Amber
124 826 01 43 right Amber

124 826 02 43 left Yellow
124 826 03 43 right Yellow

I'm not sure if you're asking about just the lens (if indeed they are available separately), or the complete unit?.

My experience - which is of the whole unit - is that anything other than OE is crap. Non-OE are considerably cheaper than OE, but its a false saving. The spring-loaded plastic clip which holds the unit in the front fender recess are never as robust as those on OE units, and as a result the light can get sucked out at high speed - often leading to damage to the paintwork.

Yes I am talking about the whole units. It seems through persual that there are a couple of catefories of knockoffs ... from what I can infer from these boards .... happy to have someone correct me

Hella - OE
Bosch - OE
DEPO - may be acceptable
TYC - may be acceptable
Unbranded - typically made in China - junk
URO - junk

here is the complete list of PNs I finally found in a spreadsheet on www.w124performance.com:

124-826-02-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, left, Bosch, USA (Light Amber)
124-826-03-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, right, Bosch, USA (Light Amber)

124-826-00-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, left, Bosch, Euro (Dark Amber)
124-826-01-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, right, Bosch, Euro (Dark Amber)
124-826-04-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, left, Hella, Euro (Dark Amber)
124-826-05-43 1986-93 W124 front turn signal, right, Hella, Euro (Dark Amber)

124-826-11-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, left, Bosch, USA (White+Amber)
124-826-12-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, right, Bosch, USA (White+Amber)

124-826-07-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, left, Bosch, Euro (White)
124-826-08-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, right, Bosch, Euro (White)
124-826-09-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, left, Hella, Euro (White)
124-826-10-43 1994-95 W124 front turn signal, right, Hella, Euro (White)

Update:

  1. Bosch Euro Ambers are no longer available
  2. I installed Euro Amber Hellas on my w124 approx five years ago - I was never really happy with them because I felt that they looked more yellow than what I saw in pictures. I am not sure if this is because the red color of my car plays tricks on the mind when a turn signal is seen next to the car or what.
  3. @kegmankipp bought over some NLA Euro Amber Boschs and we compared them to Euro Amber Hellas - they look exactly the same.
  4. I bought another pair of Euro Amber Hellas and painted them with 12 coats of Duplicolor Metalcast Orange MC205. This is a product recommended by Daniel Stern for tinting lighting.
  5. Now the turn signals look like what I expect them to look like.
  6. I will wait a week for this to cure, then apply several coats of clear, then wait for that to clear, then polish to smooth out the finish / remove orange peel.

Hella, Bosch, whatever it is, the original Euro turn signals aren’t and have never been as orange as all that. Need to push the button on @makemann ’s pearl gray car instead of doing non Bruno Sacco approved stuff, @Jlaa 😆

Reminds me of the Jerry Seinfeld “Chicken Roaster” episode

May I be excommunicated from the Mission of
Bruno Sacco!!!

Pearl Grey I think is the only color I think that I would risk incurring the wrath of Mrs. Jlaa for and have 2x500Es in the garage…..

As always, you are spot on, @Jlaa ! When in the PNW

All the way to July when the sun burns down till end of Sept to such a degree that I get worried about my new anodized weather strips turning gold- been there done that and since it is all NLA I actually start liking that good old Seattle grey

I waited a week for the clear to cure, buffed with an orange pad / drill to flatten out the orange peel slightly, and then baked in the oven at 200F for an hour as per directions for maximum harness. The difference is more subtle that my original pic that didn't involve the whole curing process, but this finally looks "right" to me.

41A6B0C1-DCEF-401D-A92B-F7B05B3AECA7.jpegGreat thread, just what I needed to know. I traced a lighting bug (no right rear parking and right fog) to a PO/shop installation of Euro headlamps and a bad N7. Anyway, I looked in my parts inventory and found these 2. It’s a pair, but different colors. Now to either find a correct color (one of them) or require the clear corners.

One of those is USA spec (you can see the reflector) and the other is Euro spec (nonreflector) hence the shade difference.

has anyone successfully repaired broken mounting tabs on these? the hella euros I bought last summer cracked on disassembly and I ended up just buying a new pair, but would love to repair the other set just to have…

If you didn't lose the tabs, try re-attaching them with plastic epoxy?
Yeah, make a cardboard mold / form to hold the tabs in place. Cover the mold / form with painter's tape. Use JB Weld to get the tabs stuck back in place. JB weld works great for this application and it won't stick to painter's tape (the sticky side) .... and is sandable.

When bonding an item that will have some bending pressure, I like to sandwich the part (tab) with some thin aluminum such as roofing flashing. Maybe even drill a few holes in the parts so that the epoxy can go thru and act as a clamp.
