Is this the tool needed to remove the power steering resorvoir? (apologies in advance for laziness not to search it first...)

I don't believe so, IIRC, for p/s reservoir you will need a torx socket or similar to remove torx screws. I don't recall the exact size.

For the PS reservoir, you will need "female Torx" (aka reverse Torx) sockets, as documented in my HOW-TO on the E500E PS pump rebuild, from one year ago.

The only place I can think of that I've used XZN sockets on the MBs that I own has been on the M104 head bolts (and I think the M119 head bolts also use same?). They are not a super big need for day to day maintenance work on young-timer MBs such as the 124 and 126.

Cheers,
Gerry

XZN's are also used on the half-shaft to diff flange bolts and some of the newer 5-link arm bolts.

That's true ... as MB consolidates/supersedes parts from older cars to newer cars (particularly fasteners) XZN fasteners and female Torx fasteners are becoming more common.

Interestingly, the former Allen bolt that held the fan clutch center on the M104 has been superseded to a Torx bolt, negating the special stubby Allen socket special tool that MB has for the original fan clutch bolt. I've snagged a couple extras of these Allen bolts at the wrecking yard as they are very easy to strip out.....

Yes, the M119 also uses the XZN headbolts, 12mm

I have the original MB factory tool, 119 part# on it.
