Viofo is a popular option but generally they've lasted me about a year and I've gotten 3 replacements each time. I initially had the A119 that failed me twice and the A129 Duo that failed once (front facing camera, rear camera was good). I would see random power issues and clips not being recorded regardless of Micro SD card brand/type.
I've read good consistent reviews about Blackvue but they aren't cheap.
For me, it was important to have a dash cam when driving any car not only the daily. I decided on an Escort MaxCam 360 which is a front facing dash cam and radar detector in one unit which I thought was brilliant! I purchased the EZ Mag Mount for each car and simply grab the Escort unit and mount to any car I'll be driving. The magnetic mount makes it super easy to attach. The radar portion is almost as good as their top of the line Escort Redline 360c but to me the camera is a huge benefit. Absolutely no complaints about this solution.
Elevate your drive with Escort's MAXCAM 360c - a cutting-edge dash cam and radar detector combo. Enjoy 360-degree protection for a safer and smarter journey.
I got the Garmin Dashcam Live cheap as an open box. It’s got a 4G connection so I have a parking guard as well, and I can see a live video feed from the car anytime. I have to pay around $10 per month for the 4G connection, but it’s only a monthly subscription and can be cancelled anytime. The camera works no matter what (something that unfortunately needs to be clarified in today’s subscription world).
It’s a good dashcam and gives me some (false) sense of security, which I in all its falseness do appreciate.
It just sits there next to my rearview mirror, and I hope I’ll never need to actually download the video from it. It loop records like 8 hours before it starts rewriting the card, that should be plenty.
I can get this live feed from anywhere as long as the unit keeps a 4G (or WiFi) connection:
Yea it does. It has a battery of its own too that can keep it running for some time if the power is cut or the car battery dies.
I had to buy a separate harness to be able to make a permanent power installation, I think that ought to be included for the msrp. But I got it for a decent price from Amazon.
All in all it’s a good solution, albeit too pricey at full price. But that’s Garmin being Garmin.
