eBay voltage regulator failure (few months old, barely driven with)

Re: Ebay voltage regulator (few months old, barely driven with).

That sucks. Did the broken brush do any damage to the commutator?

Re: Ebay voltage regulator (few months old, barely driven with).

Thankfully not. Off to the MB dealer for me. I won't be tempted by the 'Booche (just like OEM)' VR's again.

Re: Ebay voltage regulator (few months old, barely driven with).

Damn it Jim, it said 'Made in USA' Maaade in USA!
ALL500, I forgot to ask... can you post a link to the eBay listing or the vendor?

:apl:

Re: Ebay voltage regulator (few months old, barely driven with).

that's some bogus USA labeling. China will print damn near anything you want on a part, just ask em.

if you looked @ a Bosch reg vs that you would see they are VERY Different. that's a Bad thing :(

Stick w/ the real deal...definite concerns over the condition of your alt as a whole now.

The amazon bosh part says made in China. I doubt it is authentic. Definitely not made in the usa. Perhaps Spain or Chez republic?

Probably depends which VR you are looking at, and for what amperage alternator.

OE MB # 002-154-85-06 appears to be Bosch 1-197-311-213, for 110-120A alternator (all E500E). It shows Made in GB in the Amazon photo below.

OE MB # 002-154-92-06 appears to be Bosch 1-197-311-242, for 143A-150A alternator. This appears to have switched production from GB to India.

Interestingly, the EPC shows 002-154-85-06 superceding to 002-154-92-06, but the old p/n may still be available from MB. (??) Seems you could probably use either one for the 110-120A alternators, but the later one is probably preferred for the 143-150A upgrades.

:shocking:

I just posted some notes about this
My 90A VR and 143A VR both have the same part number so it confused me. I cannot find a Made in GB VR anywhere, and I do not know much about Hella. FCP and Autohaus are selling the Beru brand, however I've never used their VRs before .
Any guidance on this is appreciated.
As always, thank you

Hella and Beru are generally OK. You may not find anything made in UK/GB anymore. Last couple Bosch that I saw were made in India, IIRC?

Absolutely correct. All I see is made in India, but I don't want to use them.
Would you by any chance have a part number for Hella brand for the 143 amp alternator?
Thank you.

The Beru voltage regulators are made in China, so I would stay away from them.

The Bosch units seem to be currently very very low in stock; some parts houses actually have them on back-order. They are made in India, and have been since circa 2012.

Thanks for the heads up on Beru.
It's going to be Hella or Bosch

I am not aware of where/how to purchase a Hella voltage regulator. Not sure that I've actually ever seen one. Whatever you do, kindly stay away from Beru.

:gsxrepc:

Correct. The screenshot part does not interchange. The Hella part I found is 5DR 004 242 041.
The 143A alternator was pulled from a 1995 S500.
The Bosch part number is 0021549206, however the one I saw in eBay is "made in Gremany", and the item shows "made in India"
That was their typo!
The bay 🤔

The old VR p/n (for 110-120A alternators) is showing up as available from Beru, but made in China, and priced very low (~$15 from most vendors). That doesn't bode well. The Behr may or may not be good stuff, but seems very few vendors have any in stock.

Beru link:

I'd be more interesting in shelling out for the OE MB part despite the $85 cost:

This is a situation where I'd go with the India-made Bosch part for $45 and see how it goes.....or if the Hella was made in a "good" country for that same price, I'd try that out. Second choice would be to go factory.

I see the Meyle is making the VRs, as well. Perhaps URO too.....

I was surprised to see on FCP that the Beru is now made in China, and I'm a tad bit weary of using Chinese electrical components, in my Mercedes.
I could either get the Hella regulator, shipped from England for $49.00, or fork out the $85.00 for the factory part.
I'm still sitting on the fence.

It's not a lot of money so I would suggest going with the genuine MB part only.

That's eight thousand five hundred cents; that's a lot 😄
I decided within a matter of minutes to get 2 from the dealer. We never know when they'll become NLA

Yes that's true! I have a new MB one on the shelf as a spare. 2011 made and in India (Bosch marked)

All my cars have rebuilt alternators anyway so this is extra insurance

The alternator is 143A. Are you suggesting that I can use #85 instead of #92?
I'm 99% certain that yes, #85 should work. The EPC shows #85 superceded to #92. I would be surprised if there were any issues using #85 with a 143A-150A unit.

:shocking:
