Flipping for the nth time through my owner's manual yesterday I, for the first time, noticed this:

IMG_20200130_183806.jpg

This evening, about half-way home, I remembered about it and flipped the lever up. It works like an effin charm. About as good as an auto-dimming mirror. For 5.5 years I've been tortured by pickups and suvs during the evenings/nights :miserable:.

Am I the only gifted one:smiley_emoticons_mt, or are there are others who did not know?

Then, I'm the only "gifted" one here - haha. In my language we call it confusing God's gift with scrabbled eggs. Seems to be the case here

I was surprised that flipping up maintains full rear view, just with out blinding from the headlights

Congratulations on turning 16 and getting your driver's license. Yes, flip up/down rear view mirrors are a marvel of modern technology. Perhaps sometime in the future, mankind will have figured out how to miniaturize this new fangled thing called "vacuum tubes" and figure out how to effect this glare-change electronically as well.

:stickpoke:

@Jlaa, my great-uncle is 73 years old and has been and still teaches at a university in Kyiv for the last 15 or so years. He gets to observe various gradual changes in mentality/culture/base knowledge of new students each year. Since about 2013, 17 year old first-year university Ukrainian students have never heard of/have no idea who is Yuri Gagarin. Amongst other shockers, this boggled my great-uncle's mind the most. Admittedly it was a shocker for me too, particularly because it lead to a realization that I'm getting old . Given the propensity for propaganda in that thankfully no-longer-existing country, there wasn't a single person out of 300 million population in 1991 that did not know who Gagarin is. Fast-forward 20 or so years, and about 1/3 (0-25 year olds) have never even heard the name

I turned 16 in 2001, the year I came to US and drove new leased cars from the get-go. IIRC, all had auto-dimming mirrors. Until a few days ago, before I noticed in the owner's manual about availability of an anti-glare position, I had no idea non auto-dimming mirrors could do that 😁 . It was a revelation 😁

By the way, this is the car of my childhood (through 1995). Grandfather's car. It does not have an anti-glare flip 😁

It's best if you just purchase a @2phast Tactical Automotive Systems rear-view mirror with the auto-dimming. Then sell your good mirror to a California or Arizona owner for $50 or so.

I was actually going to buy one from him. Until my discovery

.........and what about that "amazing piece of technology" in front of your rearview mirror???? Haha
