Would you happen to have the correct part # for e60/e36 amg trunk emblem?

The NOS one I sourced is part No. A220 817 08 15. Had to pay $200 for it but very difficult to find. Turns out the previous owner had de-badged the car many years ago and prior to delivery installed a brand new set of period correct OEM emblems in my car. So the one I bought is now my spare both for E60 and for the AMG. Good luck.

Yes, that is the correct premerger/preacquisition ‘A’. The post acquisition A has a right angle side not a truncated triangle side anymore. I learned that after the fact.

Actually the 'A' is not a pre-merger/post-merger thing... they changed from the truncated triangle A to the right angle A in about 2011.
Note the truncated triangle shape of the A on my 2001 E55...

Yes, post acquisition they changed the ‘A’ to right angle. IIRC in 2009 was the official acquisition of AMG as a Mercedes Brand and for 2010 model years the A was different on the AMG badged cars. The merger obviously had already taken place in mid 90’s. More of a font/marketing thing than anything else. I prefer the truncated triangle A.

Great stuff, although you advertised the E 500 trunk badge on Facebook for $175, why did you do that or is that a 500 E rear trunk badge instead (which is of course NLA)? Extract from Facebook:

"I have a few extra parts that I am not using so if anyone is interested just send me a message. With permission of the admin here will post. I am not a sales person just have these extra in case anyone needs them. Price in US$. Buyer pays for shipping.
Aftermarket AMG edged W124 pedal set $150.00
OEM New Old Stock E500 Trunk Badge New part No. A124 817 6015: $175.00"

Thats what I have into it, bought in Germany in Euros + shipping and small duties last year. Price for Forum members is different. Much Lower, since I’ve benefited from this community with multiple parts purchased at reasonable prices and invaluable knowledge gained plus more importantly found the car of a lifetime. Out there, it’s a different story.

Fair enough and I can understand that, so I assume you are on the Facebook group only to sell items...$40 vs. $175 is a big difference. This is a small community and many of us are also on the Facebook group supporting members and contributing to technical topics. Just my 2 cents.

Appreciate the input. That is why if you identify yourself as a member of this forum while approaching me on FB your price is what is listed here and I am happy to oblige. There are some members in here that have helped me to a point that if they asked for the emblem I would give it to them for free. Not sure what the issue is last time I checked it was my funds and diligence (and probably lack of knowledge too) that got the emblem stateside for that cost and I am trying to recoup it as I don’t need it. I was still pondering E500Es at the time and a new trunk emblem was high on the list. Next thing you know I am able to get a Factory E60, thanks in part to this forum. And I am most appreciative of that. As for other media platforms: I joined the FB group for a multitude of reasons not to use it as a price gouging platform. If you are interested in this emblem let me know. Thank you.

Thanks for the consideration for this forum, @JAB12. I feel like Zuckbook is a kind of the wild-wild west with tons of misinformation, potential scammers, and a lot of chest-puffery. This place has none of that drama and @gerryvz and team have done a great job at keeping the right culture here.

‘Spybook’ is a more appropriate name for it too. Google something and then open your FB 20mins later. One of the first Ads on your feed would be of the item you googled earlier. You think that is coincidence?

And yes @gerryvz @gsxr @e500.org @2phast as well as many others in here do a phenomenal job in this forum, keeping a tight ship and hosting a wealth of information available nowhere else. For that I am grateful. FB is another story entirely.

I shut down my Facebook account in 2013. Never missed it for even a minute since.

I cannot imagine trying to have a technical discussion about anything, or writing a HOW-TO article on maintenance or repair, on Facebook. Perhaps it's good for posting photos of your new car, or a "phelphie" of you and your 500E, or maybe advertising something you have for sale.

All I can say, is that the "real men" of the E500E world, come here for their information. We don't take your money, we don't track you for advertising purposes, the signal-to-noise ratio here is several orders of magnitude better than Facebook, and the folks here know what they are talking about.

There's a lot of discussion about the effect of Instragram and Facebook on "traditional" forums of this type. Lots of people fretting that Facebook is making forums obsolete.

I don't see it happening. It's too specialized here, too much information, and in a format where information is presented, searchable, and preserved in a more logical and organized format.

Those articles are #fakenews. The same is said of the Porsche forums where I have heavy presence. You could not get the information and clean and clear level of technical discussions on IG or FB that you get on forum sites such as this one and RL. It will never happen. Keep doing what you are doing Sir.

I am also on rennlist and I like it here much better. Rennlist indeed has a lot of deep tech discussion, but there is too much self-congratulatory activity for my tastes.

rennlist is really no different than Banzworld, M5board, PeachParts, and a lot of the other car forums out there.

Corporately-run forums -- made as vehicles to serve advertising to users, and track them across the internet to serve supposedly relevant ads to them. They are for-profit endeavors, with the owners making good money off of the ad serving.

The fact that they are forums is secondary to the fact that they are ad-serving vehicles.

Hmmm....kind of sounds like Facebook. Heh.

This is EXACTLY the reason why we don't accept advertising here, and why I don't accept donations.

It keeps the intent and purpose of this site....well....PURE. As in focused on the cars, and the owners.

Not on me making money off of serving you guys ads.

Just this morning I got an email from a corporate car forum conglomerate, with the latest offer to buy out this forum. I get 4-5 of these offers every year.

These greedy corporate media conglomerates want more forums, so they can serve y'all more ads. As if you don't get served enough ads already. Right Banzworld & Facebook & Instagram guys?

I still don't know why people actually are members of Facebook. Typically when I ask that question the answer is "Because it's how I keep in touch with relatives / longtime friends / school friends / former colleagues / etc."

My answer to that is "Everyone who I need to keep in touch with already has my phone number, email address, and physical address." Or they can find me on this forum or via a Google search. The one exception I have is LinkedIn, but that is strictly professional, and I don't do anything "social" on that platform.

Seriously ... the last thing I would want to do is use WhatsApp, or Facebook, or Twitter to keep in touch with an old high school friend, LOL.

I'm there for a few reasons:

There's a private/closed veteran's MB group of people from all over the world that have known each other since the mid 90s. They migrated there after their former online forum dissolved. It's the only place a lot of these guys communicate online and a good way to keep in touch.

I am a member of a local (wealthy, gated) community's marketplace. It's a great place to find really good stuff that rich people toss for pennies on the dollar. Don't ask me how I got on.

I have several "sock puppet" accounts for OSINT purposes. Amazing the things you can discover about people on Facebook.

I don't understand the car groups there. The few I have ventured into are full of idiots who are only interested in promoting some really asinine things, like cutting holes in the hoods of W123 diesels and putting elbows on the turbos so the exhaust sticks out. ??? These same forums are full of people who claim to have worked on these cars for decades, yet they promote some repair methods and approaches that are clearly stupid and in some cases dangerous. If you take exception to anything and attempt to present an alternative you get flamed and in some cases, as I did once, kicked out.

There is definitely something weird, so to speak, with the people that patronize Facebook. At least in the Mercedes groups.

Dan

@LWB250: maybe you should start a thread here on the formula to get into said wealthy soccer Mom disposal ‘offer up’ style FB group. I bet we can be of contributing force to the country club style of living.
Agree 1000% on FB car groups.

Photo of Item 7: Badges and pedals bundled. PM me if interested.
