FS: 1967 280SE Coupe; White/Cognac; $49,500 obo; Hemmings (Denver, CO)

I saw that car online, good looking. Those bundt wheels make it look a little hot roddish, I dig it!

I've seen it in person.... a very cool car. Seller needs to off-load it to help fund his Lancia and Porsche resto-mods...

I had a 1964 220SEb that looked just like that BUT not restored. Mine was Artic White w/ Black Leather, 4 speed on the floor, Euro headlights and the wheels were steel with the SS beauty rings. If I remember correctly it even had a working sunroof.

I bought it from a friend of mine for $3,500.00 back in the 90s. It had sat in his warehouse and not run for 10 years. Before my friend brought it to the USA the car was previously owned by an auto dealer in Germany. It has minor rust in the trunk floor in the spare tire wells and no other. To start it after 10 years of setting I bought a new battery some quick start fluid and gasoline. It started almost immediately. I drove it home on the freeway about 6 miles and lost all of the rubber on all 4 dry rotted tires. BTW the tires looked great when I started. I re-built the brake system, bought brand new Michelin tires for it and drove it as a daily driver for about a year. I R&R and refinished the interior wood on the dash. The interior leather was in great condition BUT after using it for a while all of the stitching broke. That's when I sold it for $4,500.00

After seeing this one I'm sorry that I don't still have it. O Well

I do too! Rarely see them. Terry, I didn't know yours was a coupe. I'll withhold further comments so as not to add to your regret. Anyone know how many of these were brought to the US?

My uneducated first response is beautiful car but price seems high. Are these coupes really bringing that kind of money?

I think that's a bit aggressive on the pricing. I have a 1970 280SE coupe and my dad has owned a 1969 280SE coupe since 1972. They are such elegant and beautiful cars, but I don't see him getting close to that value. The later low-grille 70-71 3.5 V-8 coupes are in that price range for clean original cars, but not the 6 cyl cars. Although I truly hope I'm wrong!! Also, here in the USA, a 1967 would be a 250SE, the 280SE wasn't here until 1968.

For you guys who know the seller, could you get more info on those wheels? They are much wider than the standard Bundt wheels and have a lot more lip and offset. I think they look fantastic!! Just wondering if they were custom built or if they're aftermarket?

I received this additional information from the seller:

The later V8, low grill cars in this condition are about 6 figures now! See attached Hagerty's valuation sheet.

The wheels are special made, the offset matched to the fender lip with minimum clearance. They are 15 x 7 rolled rims welded on the inside to the center section of the bundt wheels. My shop has since closed, but any Porsche Fuchs wheel shop could do this, same as when they modify the 15” Fuchs wheels. I don’t think anyone else has done this at this point.

Another post was about the year, everyone thinks if its a 280 it has to be a ’68, but euro cars moved to the 2.8 engine mid ’67.

Amazing car, always wanted one of these so I do look from time to time.

Looks to me he is asking V8 money for a V6 car, but others would know better.

Thanks for the info on the wheels! I need to look into this more, they look fantastic!! I wish him good luck with the sale. It's a very cool car with the 4 spd, super rare!!
