*Posted in off topics as these do NOT fit 500E / 036 Transmissions*

Hi all,

Some of you may or may not be aware of a common problem on the 722.6 (5 speed) and 722.9 (7 speed) Transmissions whereby the oil pumps can fail and tear up the aluminium bellhousing.

This means the bellhousing is also scrap and requires replacement which is expensive for one and also hard to locate good used ones.

This is an example of said failure on my w221 S320 which I am currently repairing:

Another option here is to fit repair plates. These are available from some USA suppliers and vary from open style plates (not recommended) and a solid style plate. When this happened to my w221 I could not order any plate to Ireland / UK!

I did get a solid one from USA years ago for my W140 rebuild. It was not great quality if im honest. Laser cut, sharp edges etc.

So I carefully measured and designed my own repair plates. I found a local supplier and we discussed and made samples to find the best quality materials available.

I am pleased to say the first proper sample is a huge success and I have the next 20x first production run on order. I should have these in hand next week and ready to ship very soon thereafter.

(Mirror polish on the pump gear side) This provides a robust and super smooth plate for the oil pump to ride on. You can use these to protect a good bellhousing or to repair a damaged bellhousing.

These are supplied with protective film on the polished side and ready to fit as I will hand finish each plate. I can offer these to members for £38ea + post cost. Payment via PayPal F&F method.

Please express any interest here and no of plates required. I will not ask for any £ until I show a photo of the first batch ready to ship.

Of the first 20x run, I'll be keeping 6x for my own cars so 14x available :) I can post worldwide if you want a postage quote express interest here first then PM me full address and I'll check.

For anyone who may be wondering how you can just add a plate in there and not cause problems - this spaces the oil pump out only by about 1.5mm.

MB include plenty of tolerances in their Torque Converter/ oil pump / bellhousing clearances.

Best shown easily by the photo below where you can see the witness mark of where the oil pump gear ears grab the TC nose. There is about 3/4 mm clearance so only taking up 1.5mm of that. I have fitted a plate before on my W140 and know they work without any issues at all.

:update:

I have fitted one of my plates to my w221 and the car is running great.

Note that even if you don't require them now, if you have a 722.6 or 722.9 transmission car its a very good idea and cheap insurance to have a repair plate on the shelf!

This also does not mean you have to rebuild the transmission yourself! Most rebuilders will happily install repair plates. Indeed most 722.6 and 722.9 rebuilds on YouTube etc show rebuilders installing plates to damaged bellhousings or to protect good ones during rebuild.

I have placed order for the first 20x plates. Please let me know if anyone is interested and these can ship out from next week all being well. Happy to combine postage if members in USA are interested and can post internally etc.

I am from Northern Ireland - which is not the same customs setup as mainland UK. Example Internet results -

Importing from and exporting to Northern Ireland
The situation in Northern Ireland differs from Great Britain (mainland UK), means that different regulations apply to goods shipped to or from there.
Export and import regulations in Northern Ireland are still subject to EU law. In other words, the procedures are the same as if Northern Ireland were still a member of the EU. There are no customs formalities and the VAT regulations are the same as the EU regulations, as long as the goods remain in Northern Ireland.
Goods that enter Northern Ireland from non-EU member states (including Great Britain (mainland UK)) are subject to the rules set out in the relevant EU trade agreements and the EU's customs regulations. In this case, goods may be subject to additional checks (for example, if animals are being transported).

Feel free to pm me a shipping address if interested and I can check what comes up when I got to create the international shipping label. I can also mark the item at £3 sample value and gift to be sure
