No affiliation. Engine appears bone stock despite seller's claim of "AMG tuned". Datacard indicates the car had a full Sportline package (chassis, seats, steering wheel, shift knob) until someone installed that period-incorrect wood wheel from a speedboat. Headlights are Japan-spec (left-hand traffic).

EDIT: Seller incorrectly lists model year as 1994, but car was produced in May 1991 and originally delivered to Germany before ending up in Japan for a facelift & botox.

VIN = WDB1240901F185449

Datacard = VIN Decoder for Mercedes-Benz

I'd get two PPIs were I considering buying something from those guys. Which I wouldn't.

$0.02

I'm not familiar with the seller. Thanks for the heads-up. Although the wagon looks really cool, I'd have a hard time paying that for wheels and a body kit. OK, the widebody is really sweet, ditto the Karo Sportline interior. And you couldn't build this for under ~$20k or so. But it's begging for a real powerplant.

I'm sure this came off the boat from Japan auctions and went straight through the detail shop. I'd like to know where the airbag went...

They used to be known as "Real Muscle Car Miami"
And a couple of other trade names.

I poked around a 993 they had on offer a few years ago. My spidey senses (and Google) told me to walk. Turned out the car was riddled with undisclosed rust.

Haven't looked at their M.O. lately, but going from memory they use another related entity to buy questionable cars (think BHCC quality) and then do quickie fix-ups.

I'm certain they have some satisfied buyers out there. But please weigh the evidence for yourself.

EDIT: Just to clarify... I have no direct or indirect knowledge of this vehicle. My comments are targeted at my experience with the dealer and the dealer's reputation.

I love the look of it but what's up with the 103 in a '94?

Yes, that has me wondering as well. The wagon received the M104 in 1990. I can't imagine someone pulling out a M104 for a M103. Logic dictates that this isn't a 94 model. Probably a 1989 model updated to look like a 1994. Shady and false advertising it would seem

Datacard shows build date 05/1991.

Engine # 103983 12 249479

Seller responded and did say it was a 1991 model, but its titled as a 1994. Still odd though, even a 91 model should have the M104 motor

I've been told that a 103 is better for performance enhancements (turbo, etc).

Anyone with experience?

Yea.....ever tried to tune a CIS motor? You would be better served with a M104 HFM. Makes a 3.6l AMG engine swap a breeze

Motor mystery solved. Seems that in certain markets there were motor options at time of order for the W124 wagon. So this car could of had the M103 or M104 or M102

Figured it was something like that since my former 91 300TE had the M103.

Here in the states ...I thought the M104 3.2 made its debut in 1993 pre-facelift model. Unless it was (and could have been) a 3.0 M104 24v

Correct. For the US market, there was a version of the M104 (the 104.98x designation) that was introduced in the 124 coupes and cabrios in 1990, which utilised Bosch KE-Jet injection (same as the M117 560s, and M103s). This was used for several years, until the 1993 M104-based "pre-facelift" models were brought to the US in late 1992.

The HFM-based M104s were designated 104.99x (typically .992 for the US E320 sedans/coupes/wagons/cabrios, and for example .996 for my G-wagen variant).

Availability was different in non-US markets.

Yes like my 1990 coupe! But it's only the 3.0 M104 old KE jet FI.. not the more modern 3.2. The 3.2 came standard from 93 up I think?

That is correct. The US-market 104.980 motors were of 3-liter displacement. It was bumped up to 3.2 liters for the .992 US models.

1993-up 6-cylinder 124's in USA all had M104 with HFM injection, in either 2.8L or 3.2L displacement.

The exception is the 1993 4MATIC models, which retained the M103 and CIS injection. This was also the last year 4MATIC was offered in USA on the 124.

As mentioned by Rik, things were very different across the pond. Almost every conceivable combination of engine/chassis were available across many years. MBUSA kept things simple by only importing certain combinations, with mostly the same standard equipment (i.e. power windows, ACC, sunroof, etc... stuff that was optional equipment in other countries). IIRC, 4Matic returned in 1998 on the W210 and with lower-case naming.

We're discussing two options currently 🦉
My vote would be to stick this in there:

Unfortunately the same unpleasant seller as the m119 6.0 engine that’s been discussed here before.

Best of luck with the rebuild of this good looking TE

The Wagon sold as it is listed on their website as sold. I'm not into Wagons, but for the visual and price seemed OK with some stock modifications to be made starting with the steering wheel.
