FS: 1992, 500E, Black/Black, 116K Miles, $16,950 (Santa Cruz, CA)

No affiliation. I drove this car before deciding on a C126. Interior was surprisingly clean. Car drove well. ZERO records. Paint is has scratches befitting a 20 year old car with 116K miles. Looks great from 20 feet away. Current owner has not had car very long, is a collector looking to make space for his latest find.

Curious -- what tipped your hand in favor of the C126 as opposed to the 500E? Was it the car itself (condition, etc.), looks, or how it drove?

The C126 I'm buying is a friends car. When I was in town last year he let me borrow it for a week and I loved driving it. There was something elegant/dignified/special about the car. It's more how the car made me feel than how the car felt. That's what got me thinking I should finally scratch the 036 itch as I've always loved them and think they are the most desirable sedans ever made. As cool as they are and as much as I love looking at them, driving the 036 didn't give me the same the feeling as the C126. So, I made my friend an offer and he sold me his 126.

I think you should get one of each ... best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing your story. I am looking forward to hearing much more about your ownership and experience with the SEC.

My 126 coupe has definitely grown on me over the years. For the first 3-4 years I owned it, I really didn't drive it too much to be honest. I had it stashed at my storage garage a couple of miles from my house, so only took it out on occasion for weekends and such. Or I'd trade it off for a week with my 036. But the 036 was the daily driver. Nowadays I drive the SEC much more, and I really love it. Doing most all maintenance and repair on the car has also endeared me to it, as has 10.5 years of ownership.
