FOR SALE fs - 1992 500E engine and trans with appox 260K miles

I have the engine and trans from the 1992 500E I parted last year. The engine has the metal oil tubes, but I have removed the upper harness and the ETA.

$250.00 local pick up. I have access to a forklift so it is easy to load into the bed of a pick up truck.

This was a running engine when pulled from car. It is an early engine with 8 rib serpentine belt.

If this does not sell in 3-4 weeks I will sell the oil tubes separately. Actually I will be parting a 1992 400E engine which also has metal oil tubes.

Thanks,

Jeff

You don't want to drop a 5.6L crank in there for fun, Jeff? :D

This would be a sweet upgrade for someone that has a 1992 400E!

What i can find out that in 2011 jetcarrier took aprox 1000nok for shipping an engine from them to Norway. You will have the shipping inside US also.

Also found this Norwegian guy who lives in Florida and has a company that ships to Norway once a week. Popular on some AMcar forums.

No sludge inside the valve covers, and not a spec of corrosion visible externally... how is this not sold yet?

Just curious, how much work would be involved to put a 5.0 into a 400E? I know from this thread:

http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8723

you need to replace the EZL, LH Module and E-Gas module because they vary depending on displacement.

Obviously this alone wouldn't turn a 400E into a 500E, but it sure would be a nice power jump for probably not a lot of money.

LH, EZL not sure if you really must do the E-gas, I wouldn't. Not a 500, obviously not but performance vise, deffinately and more so if the 400
doesn,t have ASR. Do not hesitate. Roger

Exactly correct. EZL+LH and swap in the throttle body from the recipient chassis. Plan on a few hundred bucks in fresh seals & stuff so it doesn't leak; way easier to do this with the engine sitting on a stand.

Jeff, just curious, can you post the engine serial number? And also post if the timing cover has the extra mounting boss for the 93-up belt tensioner? Some photos of the area behind the belt tensioner might suffice.

I'm not interested personally but if the engine has the late timing cover, it would allow conversion & installation into 93-95 models with minimal hassle. Otherwise it would need to retain the manual tensioner and use all 8-rib pulleys/belt. (Glad this isn't local or it would already be adding to the clutter in my shop!)

Engine serial from Jeff. Interestingly, it is 7 behind my old 1992 500E (which had #5031).

Dave,

I know this has been discussed before and IIRC it is no exact changeover point/date. However, didn't the changeover happen before MY 92, so all '92s should have a timing cover with that extra mounting boss?

My '92 left the factory at 8th April 1992 with engine no. xxx3897 and have that boss in place. The hole is bored but not threaded.

Arnt, my USA model year 1992 left the factory at 8th August 1991 with engine no. xxx1595 and does not have that boss in place. Engine #2302 also did not have the boss.

The earliest number I had confirmed with the mounting boss (but not threaded) is engine #5031. Thanks for adding yours to the list, now we know the switch likely happened somewhere between #2302 and #3897!

Side note - Jeff's engine for sale probably has the mounting boss, but if it does, it will need to be drilled slightly larger & tapped.
