The 1992 Mercedes Benz 500E needs no introduction. It is one of the best performance sedans made in its era. Highly coveted by Mercedes and Porsche enthusiasts all over the world. How many other Mercedes sedans were co produced with Porsche?

This 1992 Mercedes 500E is all stock and original. It has 152k miles and was responsibly adult driven. It is rare Brillant silver with Dark blue leather. She is equipped with 16 AMG monoblocks with Michelin pilot sport tires with very good tread. The car has a clean carfax with no accidents and clear title. Owned in Texas and California. It was sold new at Park Place Motor cars in Houston texas. It then moved to the bay area in 2000 with 65k miles until now. Its a two owner car.

Recently I have replaced the battery, heater hoses and a fresh oil change and Mercedes oil filter. The car has also had the catalytic convertors replaced and rear suspension has been serviced. The AC blows very cold.

The car does currently have a issue going in reverse gear. Its transmission chatters when moving in reverse. All of the forward gears shift fine and smooth. The ASR and ABS light are on.

The paint is very good and still has its great shine. I love this car in Brillant silver. The body panels still have original vin stickers and body is very straight. The two tone grey paneling is also in great shape. The leather is still very good with no rips or tears. The burl wood is very good condition. The radio was replaced with a cd player with detachable face. There is also a remote alarm that was added for protection.

Email for more info. No scammers.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Rik J. told me to figure $3k for the transmission rebuild and another $1k for misc. ABS/ASR. That and the $9800 seem high. Opinions? I am currently bidding on it, but do not believe I would go to near $9800.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Your estimates are in the right ballpark... so, it depends how badly you want this rare color combo. I've only seen one other silver/blue car (for sale a couple months ago in Oregon) and this one appears to have the interior in better condition. Blue interior is very, very rare on USA-spec 036's. The problems may scare away other buyers but shoot, someone paid $8 for that smoke silver / gray hybrid in SoCal, so you never know. I didn't realize this was also on eBay, I updated the original post with the link - thanks!

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Last time I had ASR/ABS illuminated, I ended up buying a new throttle actuator. $1100.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

What is labor to install?
ETA replacement should be 1-2 hours max if no other issues appear during the surgery. It's typical for the PCV tubing to break apart during this job and that will be another $200+ in parts and ~0.5hr labor.

You can get the ETA rebuilt for ~$300 or so if desired, as an alternative to the ~$1k for a new one. It's also possible the fault could be related to the gear position / starter lockout switch and/or the upper engine harness, but if it's full-time limp mode, my guess is ETA. Any way you slice it, plan on $3-$5k in repairs with the tranny rebuild. If this is your dream color combo it might be worth it... finding a particular color combo can be a PITA.

I'm still looking for a red/blue/green 1993, preferably with non-:mushroom: interior...

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Personally, I think this is a good conservative estimate. I'd rather bet on $5-$9k in repairs.
I might have bid on this one myself, but I'm up here and it's down there
and it needs fixing and importing and i have my hands full.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

The $1100 was spent BEFORE I found this site. Could have saved major $$$ just by reading and doing many jobs myself!

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Although the autocheck lists no accidents, I don't see the yellow emissions decal where it should be. Normally this indicates front end damage and the radiator support has been replaced.

This one I can help with. :) The early build 1992 500E's did not have a yellow emissions decal, it was a black decal. My wife's 1992 500E was built in Aug-1991 and it has the same black sticker as this silver/blue car (which was built Jan-1992). Click here for a photo of my car's black decal. I'm nearly certain this is original on both cars.

If your looking for a local 500E for sale I will have mine up for sale in the next month or so.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Indeed, in the US the yellow emissions decals (or the black ones) are not available to the public from MB as an orderable part number. Indeed a missing emission sticker is an easy way to tell that a radiator core support has been replaced/changed out, signaling some sort of front-end damage.

There are sources for original yellow stickers, though ;-)

Cheers,
Gerry

They don't come off in one piece or even several pieces. Tried several times.

Thanks for the clarification. Now that I think about it, my 190e had a black emissions decal as well.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Hi Gerry,

May I ask for the source/s of the original yellow sticker and it's part number?

Thank you in advance,

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

I don't believe you can obtain original/genuine stickers from MB. However I've heard of people having reproductions made up.

As I said, there are sources for "real" MB yellow emissions stickers out there, and not reproductions. :)

And as I said earlier, they are not available to the general public. I cannot disclose my source, and really have no need to ever obtain one.

And lastly, as I said earlier, the yellow US emission stickers are not available to the public from MB as an orderable part number. Meaning: there is no valid part number to order.

Cheers,
Gerry

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

My car was build in June of 1992 and has the yellow emissions decal.
My car is a California car and after looking at the decal closely, apparently it also conforms to Canadian emission standards.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

That reminds me. The black decal may indicate a 49-state car. I need to go read mine and see if it mentions California like the yellow decal.

Note this silver/blue car has no Check Engine light, I missed that previously. My wife's 92 500E also has no CEL (and no Diagnostic Module, which is what triggers the CEL). Could be the black decal was used on cars without the DM/CEL. Depending on what state/city you live in, this could be a minor nuisance for smog inspection. The PO of my car had to get an official letter from MBNA confirming that the car came from the factory without a CEL to pacify the smog nazis in CA...! It's not an issue here in Idaho though.

UPDATE: The black sticker does not say "...State of California...", only U.S. EPA and Canadian regs for 1992 model years.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Norm (cannoli's) car doesn't have a CEL. Perhaps he can confirm what color his sticker is....

Maybe the Cali cars were in later 1992 made models?

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

SOLD on EBay for $7,601 .... looks like a good buy, did anyone on here get it ?

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Silver/Blue, 152kmi, $9800 (Burlingame, CA)

Maybe the Cali cars were in later 1992 made models?

For the years our E500Es were produced, datacard build code 494 = California Version. The datacard for this particular car does not display the code.

The datacard does display code 491 = U.S. Version. It appears very likely that code 491 represents these earlier-build, black-stickered / non CEL cars & Cali market emission requirements of the time did prompt the production changeover to the yellow-stickered code 494 cars.

Supposedly after 01.01.1996, code 494 = Version for USA/California/Canada (all North American market vehicles standardized to California emission requirements).

1992 500E Brilliant Silver/Royal Blue - 158k - $12,999

I stumbled into a high-end/exotic reseller today and saw this:

Exterior: Brillant Silver
Interior: Royal Blue Leather
Transmission: Automatic
VIN: WDBEA36E7NB690833
Mileage: 157,887 miles

http://www.teamautoplex.com/1992-Mercedes-Benz-500-Series-500E-Houston-Texas-77057/4858738

I know of the owner as a collector, probably 50+ cars and 5-6 are 500Es. He's also the guy that I mentioned in another thread that just did an E36 wagon conversion after the owner of Texas German Autohaus refused to butcher a 500E for the wagon. Records show that it is an original Houston car. Purchased at the old Mercedes dealership not 1/2 mile down the street from where it sits today. It does have some later stamps from a dealership in San Jose well.

I know the car has been serviced at TGA in Houston for current owner, so Matt or Hans can probably comment on the car and I'm thinking that the general response would be "open checkbook". tires look new and I think this one had a transmission down recently.

Good Luck!

Just my opinion but that blue interior isn't doing the car any favors.

Car was parked in a covered area when I saw it and interior looked much darker. Looking at these pics, that interior is BLUE!

Just my opinion but that blue interior isn't doing the car any favors.

Wonder if I'm going to see those missing Monoblocks on the E36 wagon the next time I see it....

True, it would of been much better if MB did more of a Designo style interior. There is just too much blue. If the dash, carpet and console was black, that would be much better. As for the door panels, they should be black with the leather insert being blue. Seats should be two-tone, black/blue. Outer edges black, inset blue (like the two-tone c43/e55). That would take care of the issue

Well , at least it's a rare combination

There's not too much I can do to make a positive comment about this interior color, perhaps it might works better in combination with a 348 Perlblau exterior. At least the ugly CD player was recently replaced with an original Becker Grand Prix...

It's weird how the blue seats ages very fast , i like the color but all those wrinkles on the leather piss me off !!!

Blue is also a bad color for MB dashboards (as used in the W126, W116 and W124 models) as it tends to crack in the sun very easily.

So are you guys saying other than the ugly blue it is a sound car? Is int not the same as the one that needed a trans or is it the same and the trans has already been overhauled?
