I'm selling my 1993 500E. VIN# WDBEA36E0PB851140. 9/92 build. Asking $13,000

I've owned the car since 2007, and have performed progressive maintenance on the car. It's been a great car, I am selling becasue I am moving on to a different phase in my life and need to simplify. I purchased it with 128K on it, now it has 159K miles. It comes with the desireable 17 inch EVO II wheels. The car is otherwise stock, even the stereo is the stock MB unit with the Alpine CD changer.

Here is a brief summary of the car. I have the VMI detailing it's delivery and service history at the MB dealership. The car was traded in at RAB Motors in San Rafael, CA in 2007. RAB auctioned it to a dealer in Portland, OR, and that is where I purchased it in Jan of 2007. I had my independent mechanic conduct a pre-purchase inspection, and we found that the wiring harness was replaced as the wiring was new and not brittle. Service records I have show:

-Transmission and torque converter replaced at dealership in 2003.
-Lower ball joints replaced in 2008
-Installed Hella European e-code headlights in 2008
-Replaced brake pads and rotors in 2008, fitted drilled rotors on all four corners
-Replaced plastic oil tubes with metal tubes, replace v/c gasket 2009
-Re-sealed power steering pump and replaced hoses (common issue, these are really hard to get to) in 2009
-Replaced AC compressor 2010
-Fitted new Hankook Ventus V4 H105 Performance all-season tires in Nov of 2010. 80% tread left.
-Crank position sensor replaced 2011

The front spoiler below the front bumper has the usual rock chips. There are a couple of rock chips on the hood, and a small door ding on the right front fender. There is a small crack in the interior wood between the power window switch and the gearshift area. See my Flickr gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/allenstephens/sets/72157627794537117/

Nice car a-man. Love the black leather interior. Was the headlight windshield wiper delete a factory option? Or is that something you did afterward?

Ricardo

Hi Ricardo,

When I installed the Euro headlights, I removed the factory headlight washer system, and installed the blank panel that goes below the headlights from the W124 260E. This is a common modification made to 500E's when installing the Euro headlights. The washer system is not that effective. I have the original headlights and washers if the new owner wants them.

Thanks for the info Allen, I like the look sans wipers and like how you did it with factory parts. I am learning more and more about these cars thanks to this forum.

Looks and sounds really nice Allen...good luck with the sale.

A question on the tires... do you like/recommend them? I had the Hankook V12s and liked them alot on the RS6...but they were summer only around here. Now I have Michelin Pilot Sports and while they are great, they have worn out really fast, and no way I will run them thru the winter.

Hi Jim,

I like the Hankooks. They have really good grip and are about 1/2 the price of the Michelin Pilot Sports. I was admiring Gerry's car when he lived in Portland, and he was running Hankooks. I need to run the all-seasons here in Oregon b/c of all the rain we get. I used to have the Goodyear F1 All seasons and those were good as well.

I'm running the old 'Kook Ventus K104s on my E500 now (purchased new and I slapped 'em on my 8-hole 18-incher Rials) and ran a set on my AMG Mono IIs before wearing them down to the threads. I got just over 30K out of the 'Kook K104s on the Monos although the camber issue with the rears wore the insides of the Kooks pretty good -- I kept them on longer than I should have, but we don't have rain issues so much here in Texas (particularly with this 100-year drought we're in). The K104s have been discontinued in favor of the Ventus V12 Evo.

Earlier this year I slapped a set of 'Kook V12 Evos on my Monos. Unfortunately I haven't run them yet as I'm using the Rials on the car and plan to run the Rials until the K104s on there are toast. The V12 Evo is the ultimate performance tire that the "Kook folks make.

Lastly I've got Kook H105 All-season touring skins on my 560SEC and they've also been great. I've gotten about 40K out of them -- no complaints. I ran them like Allen did -- because of Northwest rain. No complaints here in Texas over the past 3 years with them, though.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. An added bonus Jimbo ... folks have discovered Hankook and so the chicks have started diggin 'em .... :)

Gerry,

Where do you recommend a PPI for this car? I am in the market and sorely miss my prior black/black. I think Jimbo said it has that "banker/stockerbroker/don't mess with me" look. ...and it has cupholders for the ladies!

ask for Carl (Shop Foreman)

Burback Motors

ask for Mike (owner)

Either shop is qualified to give a detailed inspection. Both are familiar with the E500E.

Hi all -- this car is now *sold*. Thanks everyone for looking!
