Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

That car has been massively lowered, and the rear drop looks excessive... makes me wonder if there is an SLS delete. KONI front struts, sagging headliner, engine compartment doesn't show well... price seems optimistic compared to other recent listings/sales in the $50k ballpark. Maybe someone in the Bay area can go take a look in person and see what's up with the suspension.

Also... it sounds like it is currently in the hands of owner #2, making it a 2-owner car, unless the original owner refers to themselves in the third person.

San Marino - this is near LA — about 7 hrs from SF Bay Area. :-)

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

The existence of the aftermarket audio stuff is questionable.
Further, the amplifier rack is lame.

1) Unfinished long bolts that stick out with open ended nuts.
2) messy wiring.

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

I'm of the opinion that the one which just sold at Rusnak MB was a superior example and the ask was $10K lower.
Expect another RNM if the reserve is >$40K AND the seller doesn't represent this car to the nth degree. Re: suspension, undercarriage pics, harness, etc, etc....

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

At $49K, this car is approximately $10-15K too high in price. We'll see how it does on BaT.

Any buyer or potential buyer should expect ~$5+K in deferred maintenance and rubber replacement work. $10K if cosmetics are part of the equation.

I think that faux pas should receive a Gelmerian Award. That's kind of like saying the E500E battery is located underhood.

I really like how this man thinks. Must be because he's Virginian.

Nah, more like saying the E500E battery is on the left side of the trunk. :p

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Black/Gray, 44kmi, BaT (Denver, CO)

Four days in and the seller remains MIA.

Commentary has been relatively focused.

Bidding sits at $12,500.

I see something approaching a 0.0% chance this car get sold.

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

The seller posted the car on ebay last night. Ask is $38,900. Time for BaT to give the boot to this listing and the seller:

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

This listing on BaT appears to be going nowhere. No doubt it will be a no-sale.

Assault and BaTtery.......

Re: FS: 1993 500E Pearl Black/Black, 87kmi, $49k (San Marino, CA)

This car was poorly presented and represented.

There was a peanut gallery comment which was called out for possibly being from a shill. I tend to agree.

Even though I am highest bidder [at $15,900] (and still have a higher number budgetted) – I will not get the car – I am too far from reserve however now that this listing is coming to a close I feel I can chime in without causing upbidding on myself. I reached out to the owner and got excellent feedback. I was even able to speak with the original “high school grad owner” luckily, he happens to be from a wealthy family and possesses mutiple cars and he treasured that MB as it was a gift from his father – Spoke about the suspension and radiator and general upkeep – the man could afford to and did maintain the car extremely well – and I got to see the car in person. The color is amazing! The pictures (even though they are high quality) actually don’t do it justice! The interior is amazing also! It’s sad to see a potentially great car get squandered by negative comments right off the bat. If you were serious and bidding the owner would of assisted you with questions. I can understand why he refrained from posting in the comments due to the immediate negativeness portraited. If I was in his position I would of taken the listing elsewhere. And I think his patience will net him what the car actually deserves – and I am sad that its too far from my budget.

The final high bidder was a Flipper. The top bid was about half of the known Ask/Reserve.

Is it just me- or is that car sitting too low in the back? Perhaps something is off with the hydraulic suspension?

It is definitely low. I think GVZ posted in the BaT comments that he believed the car was lowered on H&R springs. The seller never answered any questions about the car during the BaT auction. You can imagine that just elevated the confidence of potential buyers.

The BaT listing had extensive discussion about the suspension. Someone who actually contacted the seller found out they have no idea what was done to lower the car.

:pc1:

Car was bid to $28100 on previous auction ended 4/19/19. RNM

I bought it back in summer 2019 and did all the work, car came out great. It cost me a fortune to get to it right.

What work did it need? PO seemed pretty confident that it needed nothing... other than maybe springs re-installed. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks some help on the forum I was able to figure it out some of the ins and outs. The replacement 500 E badge was a real challenge. Jeff Wong saved me with some hard to find electrical wiring stuff as well.

@gsxr I thought this was going to be much cheaper and easier. Live and learn.

Here is a short list

Full suspension shock springs etc
Upper and Lower Harness + other Electrical gremlins
Cam seals
Full service ++
Steering, + front end
Drive shaft balance
Tires
Headliner
Door panel card replacement
Removal of 90's stereo equipment
Front Bumper repair
Paintless dent removal
Full detail color correction, chassis and motor dry ice cleaning.
Check out I am detailing. Jakob is a master at original paint cars. He is not cheap but it is worth it. There are couple videos of my car. I love watching Jakob's videos they are so satisfying to watch what he does.

I have sent him some big value cars to work on and they all came out amazing.

Very nice- your car looks sharp!

Car I believe is stock ride hight.

Yes the car is up on BAT

I decided to put it up for sale. I’m just not using it enough I’ve had it almost 2 years and it’s now all dialed in

Thanks for all the help here guys.
I hope it goes to a good home

Yeah, I think dialing them in is the fun part... could be slow, could be quick, but they’re never cheap... I’ll say here what I said on BaT, the car is in extraordinary shape... it’s good to see them like this... well done... GLWA.

This is the best argument I’ve seen for Pearl Black ever, in fact. Silver cars will hide more imperfections but they’ll lever look this deep and glossy I don’t think. That said, F&R bumper and lower cladding refresh + color correction is on deck for mine. I recently did another car and the results were eyopping.

Really awesome example - seems like a solid #2 condition or border line #1.5! But others probably have a more sophisticated view

One question for the group: the headlights and tail lights do not look factory? Anyone know?

Price is Right Game 14 is up. Good luck to participants who want to show their Sabine’s in guessing the hammer price (and winning some cabbage To boot).
