Did a PPI at T.G.A. was very helpful.

Result:
vehicle was repainted from the pinstripe up
minor accident in the rear
headliner loose
B-Pilar fabric loosens
PS needs new sealing
little rust in the upper trunk area
wheel alignment needs to be done
etc.

Matt from T.G.A. said it about 4000$ in repair (if done with T.G.A.) but overall not in a bad condition.

Thanks to Garry for the help with T.G.A.

I was thinking about this one first. I still think it could be a good deal if you get it for under 10k. Vehicle was in a storage and brought directly to T.G.A. and was maintainanced in a dealership in Sugarland. I will get the MB mechanics tel. # tomorrow.

I went to TGA on Friday afternoon and personally spoke with Matt for a good 45 minutes about this car in his office there. He reviewed the PPI they had just performed that day on the car for ep00166 with me. Unfortunately the owner had already picked up the car by the time I got there, so I didn't get to see it in person as I'd hoped to do.

Matt (TGA service manager) made the funny comment to me that this was the first 500E he'd ever seen that had a "three-tone paint job" referencing the upper repaint, the original paint, and the cladding. It seems a poor job of color matching.

SIDE NOTE: By the way, Matt at TGA is extremely familiar with ebergstedt's newly purchased car, which came out of Houston. So, Eric, if you need any history or background info on your car, do call Matt at Texas-German Autohaus in Houston and he can fill you in with whatever you need to know.

Back to the Sugarland car ..... Matt did say the car (cosmetically, particularly on the interior) is quite nice, but he thinks the car is an $8-9K car. Having reviewed the report, I'd agree with ep00166 that this car could be a good deal if purchased at $10K or less. But I think $4K worth of work is just to cover the basics and most pressing deferred maintenance ... much more will be uncovered, bringing the cost of a true overhaul of this car to excellent mechanical condition to pushing $10K.

So if acquired at $10K, to really work this car over and do it right, would be a $20K proposition.

I had a nice, long telephone conversation with ep00166 on Friday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to meet him in the future in person !!

Cheers,
Gerry

AutoCheck indicates it was likely a single-owner (or, 2-owner max) car through late 2013, where it probably got traded in to a dealer...

:detective:

I received the number of the MB technician who serviced the car. If someones interested PM please.
