Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Corona Del Mar, CA)

My database first has record of this car, dating from October, 2004, when it had 133K miles on it and was located in Walnut Creek, CA.

It bounced around for sale at various points throughout 2005 and late into 2006, when it evidently was sold. The prices during this time ranged from $28K down to $20K.

Here are the only notes in my database on this car, along with a PDF from my records. No information on the condition of the car, modifications, etc.

asking $28K.

UPDATE 11-15-04: Asking $25,900.

UPDATE 5-1-05: Asking $24,900.

UPDATE 7-30-05: On AutoTrader at same mileage and asking price. Seller Auto Exchange of Walnut Creek, CA.

UPDATE 10-1-05: On Autotrader.com, asking $23,599.

UPDATE 12-29-05: Still on Autotrader, same mileage and price.

UPDATE 2-17-06: On AutoTrader.com, still asking same price. No photo. same seller.

UPDATE 11-27-06: Still on AutoTrader, same seller, same mileage, asking $19,900.

Why do they quote 322 hp? I thought the HP dropped after 1992.

Rated power did drop to 315hp as of 1993 due to elimination of WOT enrichment in the LH module.

Damn, why did I just sell my '92 for my '93? I'll have to go get a K&N now, that should do it :)

Just get a 1992 US or Euro LH computer and you've got your 7-10 HP back. Easiest & cheapest, butt-Dyno-verified HP you'll get for an .036.

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Alamo CA)

Actually, I think the 93-94 motor with 92 LH will make a teeny bit more power than a 1992 motor, due to the internal changes on 1993-up models (lighter weight components). The difference would be pretty slight, but at a minimum the 92 LH puts a 93-94 engine at least equal to 1992 engine power.

Where would one find said computer?

Part number?

Yes I can say for sure that a 93 with a 92 LH is faster and if its a 040 color with matching 040 lowers its as fast as a 5.0 gets.

One way to tell - need a 93-94 car with a 92 LH and me at the 1/4 mile drag strip....and I bet I will win, even if the other 036 is dressed all in 040.

I only ran against one 036 (J-Sauce's car, but without N2O) and I won by a car length.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but is the part number different for the 93-94? I see a few of these for sale.

The part number in the other thread is the only one you want (012-545-62-32). Make sure you confirm the part number. Then you need to test it and verify it doesn't have the dreaded fuel pump relay click of death. And then re-set the adaptation too, either via digital scanner or blinker box.

:pc1:

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Alamo CA)

Fuel pump relay click of death?

Wouldn't lack of electrical connection reset the adaptation?

It's very difficult to compare car to car unless they have identical brakes, wheels, tires, fuel load, stereo equipment, engine temps at time of race, etc, etc. One car length is about two tenths, btw, or roughly 10-12hp difference (assuming everything else is equal).

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Alamo CA)

Fuel pump relay click of death?
Yep. It's the common failure mode for the LH module. There have been multiple reports. I've experienced it myself on several modules.

Not on these cars. On 1996-up M119's with ME injection, disconnecting the battery or removing the ECU will reset adaptation. But on the 500E, it does not. You need to reset manually.

No problem, my car might be a bit heavier and a wider track from wider wheels - bring on a stock 036 with a 92 LH and see what's what...my $ is still on me.

Yeah, Karl. The Fontana drag races are back on in 2014...let's see what your 040 can do on the track.

Never been to the track with any of my E500E cars, sounds like fun, I just need to blue tape.

On mods, I have spend over $10K over the 8 years of my ownership. In that that same time frame, the girly has gotten way more than $10k worth of shoes...which means I need to spend more $ on my car. If I can get free flowing cats and headers done before the drag races will start, I can add another $5K to the car.

Never been to the track with any of my E500E cars, sounds like fun, I just need to blue tape.
For drag races, you don't really need any tape, just don't line up directly behind the car in front of you that might be doing a burnout. On twisty tracks, tape might be a good idea, but is based on what track you are on. Willow Springs tracks have a lot of gravel in the runoff areas and cars going off the track can kick up a lot of gravel which winds up on the track.

Yes but think about how much all of that black rubber will pop against a bright blue back ground.

Szvook are you saying that your $$$ wheel / tire combo weighs more that a stock set up ?

Ouch, Say its not so.

Szvook are you saying that your $$$ wheel / tire combo weighs more that a stock set up ?

No, they weigh less. But, my SA brakes are heavier and I have a 27lbs sub in the trunk. Weight wise, I' prolly close to stock, but the wider tires are the added drag compared to stock 16" wheels/tires combo.

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Alamo CA)

Damn! Tire store must love you.
Popular misconception. The rubber is 90% from the track itself. We can get 3-5 years of full race seasons out of a set of tires, and after that there is usually adequate tread, but grip is reduced from all the heat cycles.

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Gray, 147kmi, $15k (Alamo CA)

This is a concern as these are strange places for rust and at his asking price 15k it is too much for me to take on.

Admin edit: Photos moved to thread of Georgia car: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8610

Anyone see the eBay bidding on this one today?

44 bids and over $30K now, WTF?

From $15K and a bad sale to over $30K with 6 days left to bid??

The owner is smiling...

WEEEEIRD. Check out the bid history... same guy bid from $10k up over $30k? Maybe phishing to phind the reserve; or the top bidder's max.

:scratchchin:

All, I was the previous winner at 13900. I figured I might get another one while I waited for mine and clean it up and help keep a possibly nice 94 up to date. I withdrew all the cash, arranged to meet, moved a bunch of meetings to take a day off and arranged a ride to go see the car on a Thursday. Got a ride over in the morning and was supposed to meet up at noon.

I got a message at 10:30 that he had flown to LA the night before and wasn't around. :(

I tried a few more times and the seller just wasn't very cooperative, so I paypaled him the auction fees and 50 bucks for his "time" and gave up.

Never got to see the car in person or meet the seller. Might be an ok car for all I know? Just didn't have time for taking lots of days off to waste buying a car from someone who didn't seem interested in selling.

that sucks what a jerk. You did the right thing...no reason to deal with such shady-ness. there are plenty of other deals out there.

God ebay car auctions is a freaking mess when will they ever clean it up?? I thought once BAT got going well, ebay would up their game....nope.

Looking at the bidding activity. In a period of 1 minute and 35 seconds (from 1:53:30 PST to 1:55:05 PST), the bidding went incrementally over 29 bids from $14,400 to $31,200.

Robert

Well I don't know if he was a jerk or not. Could have been honest mistake. Not trying to call anyone out. Just seemed like he didn't want to do the deal, which is fine by me. Shake hands, and move on. :)
