Apologies if this is not the right spot for non-500e related goodies, but I saw this pop up on local CL and thought someone might be game. Guy states it's new, and for you folks in US with exchange rate it might be worth it. No affiliation, and I was almost tempted to go and take a gander, but finding a new girlfriend would be painful:blink: The mrs. would NOT be pleased if I dragged this puppy home:jono::

Might come in handy for your Pagani Zonda:cool:

A crate engine would be, in a crate. Mercedes does dump their spares of crate engines after a period of time. I have seen 2.3l 16 valve crate motors going for $2000 and a E60 crate motor that went for something like 12,000. Don't remember what the M119 motors were going for, was going to buy one but they were for the 94/95 years, think they were 4-5k. In Europe of course, so factory in additional shipping. Those are all gone though.

Here is how brand new M119 looks like I think. It was for sale a long time ago, I will regret not buying it for as long as I live. Price was 2500PLN, around $600...

Pretty much, but crate motors from Mercedes I have seen were complete with caps/rotors, exhaust manifolds, spark plugs, plug wires etc. Ready to drop in. They do sit on a wood frame, surrounded by a wood structure

If Mercedes did the same thing Porsche did when I was a service manager they had production engines held for new warranty concerns. They would instruct the dealer to pull the powertrain and leave intact for engineers to pick through. We would get a “crate” production engine that was fully dressed ready to drop in and go. After a while the engine would be sold wholesale for pennies on the dollar.
We did a warranty engine for excessive oil consumption on a 996 turbo. Initially they billed me over 60K for the warranty engine but ended up reducing the price to 35K!

Funny you mention that. I had a warranty engine replacement in my Corvette for excessive oil consumption. Replaced the motor at around 11k miles. The dealer even let me take the crate motor over to a performance shop to have a hipo cam installed and higher flowing heads, then the dealer picked up the engine and installed it under warranty. Just like you said, the motor was complete ready to drop in.

The service rep for Chevy, who came out and approved the warranty engine replacement even bought the CAI I had installed, said Chevy corporate was interested in looking/testing it.

I am not familiar with the spare parts availability for the M120, but based on a pretty steep price level I am tempt to say it could be parted out for way more than $6,500.

Or it could be a perfect engine for a KIT car like an Ultima RS, however a serious power tweak would be needed to suit the Ultima.
BTW, here is a very cool and well built Ultima RS with a 1000 hp LT5 for sale:
