For sale is a few “R Dot” replacement unused/new factory 500E specific M119 short-block motor.

This is a factory produced replacement engine. It is a complete short block without heads, but with new water pump, timing chain, oil pan and everything else.

This has been NLA from MB for many years. Metric Motors charges $7K+ for a rebuilt/used M119. This is a never used factory motor with “R Dot” label. It’s the real deal.

Ideal as a motor for a full restoration.

This is not a W140 or R129 version of this motor. It's a closed-deck, 500E-specific version, with the R-DOT label on it from MB -- an original replacement/service part from the factory, in the original MB shipping box. A pretty rare find nowadays.

This is one M119 that the chicks will totally dig, because it's clean and shiny and new.

Gerry, per our other ‘closed deck’ discussion, these pictures provide a nice look at the top of a closed deck block. Thx.

Interesting that its a ‘closed deck’ which seems to indicate an earlier block production date, but the water pump/thermostat housing is the later style (119 P/N) which i didn’t think hit until very late 119.97X production.

I believe that ALL US-market E500Es had the early style thermostat housing.

The date cast into the block is "94", which indicates to me that it is likely of 1994 production vintage.

Correct - they all use the early t-stat & housing. The short block for sale here has the early style; the late-style is visually different. The t-stat inside this housing is separate and has a 116- part number.

By the way, this motor has the early style thermostat housing. If you are interested to see the difference between the two, here they are. It's quite easy to confuse the two, to the untrained eye. I actually confused them myself, at one time, until Clark Vader corrected me.

The part number for the E500E theromstat (which is also the same part for the late M117, as used in the 5.6-liter motors): 116 200 03 15. On the E500E, when replacing the thermostat, it's also an excellent idea to replace the 90-degree short hose that goes to the thermostat housing. That part number is: 119 203 02 82

Sorry, but I don't know for sure. I CAN say that this kind of thing is OFTEN found on factory replacement unit parts, both those sold as new and those sold as "reman", which are also often new. I think that it is usually some allocation change, like Gerry said, where a part may come off a line configured for some pre-planned purpose, then those plans get changed. I've seen that kind of thing so often since forever, that I don't give it any thought. The "official" word on this kind of thing is that only the part numbers and serial numbers have any meaning for us plebes. Once that is built into a full engine, the engine number from the engine you're getting the rest of the parts from is supposed to be engraved onto this block in the usual place, and that complete engine assumes the identity of the old one.

I just realized Gerry didn't get any photos of the bottom side, so we can't tell if it has the early (bad) or late (good) coolant drains.

Well, for $10K you can do your own table. Somebody take that motor off of Robert's hands. Likely it is one of the only "wirgin" M119 motors specific to a 500E in the continental US.

I am no longer discussing anything having to do with Robert on this forum, due to a couple of members involving me in their recent grievances and problems with him.

He is a friend of mine, of close to 20 years. Though I have gotten both sides of the stories for these situations, because folks on this forum have made me aware of them, I personally do not care to get involved and thus will no longer talk about Robert, and will simply maintain my own fruitful relationship with him and let others do as they wish.

I hope you understand. Though I have in a couple of cases tried to be helpful and a good guy, I can no longer be involved with even listening to other people’s’ problems (perceived or real) involving their Robert transactions that do not involve me.

No one here should do business with Robert based on their interpretation that I personally “endorse” “recommend” or say good things about a friend. Do your homework and do business with him just as you would with any vendor.
