Here are the rules:
  • Only one entry per person (cost of entry is PayPal to kondilas@ieee.org using F&F option $5) and your submitting a price to this thread enters you into this game
  • Entry must be submitted to this thread 48 hours before the auction closes which is NLT Monday, February 15 at 4:35pm
  • Entry is (1) the hammer price at which you think this auction will end and (2) if the car will RNM
  • The winner is the person who is (1) closest to the selling price (exclusive of BaT fees) without going over and (2) indicates if the car meets the seller's reserve
  • The first person to claim a certain price and RNM status owns that slot. Duplicate bids will be discarded and the original will be maintained
  • Additional people wanting to submit at the same level have the option of bidding $0.01 higher or lower (essentially boxing the first bidder)
  • Any user can submit $0.01 as a bid if they believe all bidders are over the hammer price.
  • The new dimension of indicating if the car will meet the seller's reserve allows two people to bid a similar price as long as they do not choose the same auction outcome. For instance, if @gerryvz chooses $100K and RNM and @Klink chooses $100K and Reserve met, there will be a single winner assuming they are the closest to the hammer price without going over.
Feel free to ask questions as we refine this game.

Good luck!

Robert

Based on current bid, I'm reasonably sure reserve was met today...

:buggin:

$85,500.00 Reserve met.
Reasoning behind my bid and my dropping from further bids on BAT: Silver arrow limited had 20k less miles and sold for $123K but located in Canada. Maybe it was a freak bidding frenzy. This car is domestic in the USA and clean/clear FL title so no DOT hassle. IMO that status will attract the runners up from previous .036 LTD auction. Also the $123K seller already chimed in on this example’s auction.

You snooze ‘you loose’ as a mere 6 months ago @steve h was asking $60K OBO on ebay. I’m happy for him. 👍🏽🆙

Can we bet on the players?* Like not actually bet on the price, but bet on who's bet is gonna win?
I feel like @JAB12 is gonna win. He's always like, "Of the last 473 cars I PPI-ed last quarter, I took the chi-squared distribution of asking prices and found that there was one and half standard deviation difference between the mode of asking price to selling prices and and and and and. ............"

Maybe this can be structured as a derivative contract of some sort.

--- JUST KIDDING! @JAB12 - I trust your pricing judgement ---- !! :-) :-)

@Jlaa no worries it was a good laugh but now that you mention it I should generate a formula on this. Only I am capable of PPi’ng 13 036 cars before actually buying one. Don’t ask me how many Pcars I PPI’d in the same time period to buy just 2. Thanks for the vote of confidence on this bid.
Since I posted #6 above, the actual seller of the $123k comp has also bid on this car. If he decides to spend the $123k he made a few months ago on this one then you know where it’s heading... either way @steve h is going to get way more than his ask of 6-8 months ago. Happy Bidding....

Wow. Auction ended with a whimper. No winners in this game of the Price is Right. All proceeds will roll over to Game 11.

Looks like that bubble has burst... officially... but all I've proven is I no longer have a handle on these values.

maw

So Black Canadian LTD sells for a whopping $123K + fees with Left lights and other minor cosmetics to fix and with 20k miles less than the car in this PIR which sold $65K + Fees, let's call it half the price. How do you even take either as a comp?? IMO 65k is well bought given current context with L llights and steering wheel correct $75K would have been a handsome price. I hope all the folks at Russo n Steele from a year ago are watching all of this.... :hammerhead:

The car sold for $68250 all-in.

That's 15%++ MORE than the seller was asking on the open market.

How much BaH idiocy premium do you expect???

Not expecting any more premium. Just trying to gauge what the comp is for Limiteds. The one on this link is being offered at $150K+ ask as a result of the Canadian car sale which is ludicrous IMO.

Yep. Steve wanted $60K per the initial posts. He got $65K, the buyer got a pretty good deal for the rarity of the car, and HaT got their cut. Win-win-win. No complaints here.

We've seen prices all over the map in recent weeks and months. Everyone who played PiR thought this car was at least a $70K car, and that was a fair assumption given rarity, condition, priors/comps, and so forth.

I think it just goes to show that there really is no rhyme nor reason on these cars. It's just the right buyer and the right seller who happen to be in sync at any point in time. As said, if it's a 958 Limited, it's gonna be $5-10K more than the equivalent pedestrian E500. Remember that there were over 900 of these things made, which is a pretty high number ..... what, 8-9% of all .036s made.... and not all that far off the total number of cars brought into the US !! And given the fact that the 958er was more of a cosmetic type of deal, and not to everyone's taste on the interior.....I think a $5-10K "rarity" market premium is 100% appropriate.

Personally would I pursue a Limited? No. Would I pursue an E60 Limited if so motivated? Definitely. It's the pinnacle car of the breed. What's not to like about 380-400 HP?

Right... as @gerryvz has cautioned numerous times over the years, the market for these cars is razor thin... and with so many of them coming up for sale, I'm not surprised to see that market showing signs of satiation, at least for now. Nothing pops a bubble like a flood... if rarity is the value, 5 for sale in as many months makes them seem not quite so rare... again, at least for now.

And don't forget, Rocketman's car is coming on the HaT very soon too.

Totally agree. Far too many of these things have been hitting the market in recent months. People are cashing out for whatever reason, and the previously level prices are headed down, for now.

Well, the last one went for $129k all-in, so I think smack in the middle at $95k would be about right. Right? :agree:

Is there a thread on that car? I can't find one, but it looks familiar. Cluster DDD and misplaced tunk badge is not a good start on a $0.15M ask.

I'm with Gerry. The Limited is cool, but with nearly 10% of WW production having code 958, it's not all that unique or rare (at least outside USA). The wide spectrum of values make no sense to me.

Now, code 957... you're looking at less than 1.5% of worldwide production? Even if you factor in conversions from other tuners, a 6L is damned rare. And, it's a tangible performance difference you can feel every time you drive it; not just an appearance package. Ideally you have both (957+958 is around ~45 total, <0.5% of production) but those will have an even crack-pipey-er premium.

Bet @jhodg5ck could build a replica with fresh 6L engine and fresh geometric leather interior for under six figures... and I'd probably prefer his vs an original!

...
On ebay, it was 60 or offer. Publicly available for nine months. Seller should be thrilled with the BaH result.

I'm looking at this with a detached perspective... I don't own an 036 and I wasn't a shopper for this car. And trying to not to be Mr Hindsight. ;)

On a related note... has anyone noticed the ongoing flood of A124 Cabrios on BaH recently? Sometimes they have 2 concurrently, just like 036's. There's a silver C124 coupé as well, already up to $23k with 6 days left.

Thanks! I didn't know the price had been determined on that one. Now we just need the VIN.

There is a youtube video from this car at the port upon entry where you can freeze the pane and grab the VIN. I was trying to look for it but was not succesful, maybe it was taken down.

I don’t see anywhere where a price is quoted. Someone should contact the seller and enquire
