I am going with this foam backed headliner fabric and wonder if will hold up to the sliding on the edges of the sunroof? Anybody had any experience with this type of fabric? The first image is a the backside of the foam covered fabric at the top and the original Mercedes vinyl beneath it. The second image is a close-up of the two fabrics once again replacement fabric on top of the original Mercedes fabric and the third image is a picture of the materials in situ. The fabric is Spradling Light Parchment.

The foam back is relatively inexpensive and yes it works on the sliding roof. If you are taking down the headliner, I strongly suggest that you put some heat block aka dynomat or generic stuff up on the exposed roof and the slider. In TEXAS, the heat is brutal. So this helps noise and heat transfer. If this is original, be very careful upon removal as the glued degrading existing liner can drop crumbs so to speak and STAIN your seats and or carpet. Be careful there. I have recovered the w126 and the w124 was done before I got it. The foam backed stuff is good but just do not push upon it as it ages. The foam turns to dust from the heat, and it shows fingerprints etc then it will begin to sag. It takes multiple years but still keep your hands off the headliner once you replace it as much as you can. PSA - YMMV
