Houston area shops

Two shops I would recommend for folks in the Houston area would be:

Downtown Houston:

Texas-German Autohaus
3417 Edloe St.
Houston, TX 77027
(713) 850-8282

http://www.t-g-a.com

Co-owner Hans Richter was MB-trained in Germany and proudly displays his Meisterbrief on the shop's wall. He owns an Albrex-supercharged 1993 500E, and thus is very well-equipped to handle any needs pertaining to a 500E / E500. They maintain a number of these cars for Houston-area customers. Extraordinarily ethical and thorough shop. Not cheap, but you truly get what you pay for with TGA. They give superior service. They work on BMW and Porsche cars, as well, but their main line of business is MBs. They can handle anything from vintage to current cars.

North Houston suburbs:
G.R. Auto Care
9030 Stuebner Airline Road
Spring, TX 77379
(281) 257-6976

Owned and operated by Radita Gheorge and his son, Larry Gheorge. Knowledgeable, personal service; honest, ethical and very thorough shop. Is a specialist in 126s, 124s, 107s, 201s, 202s, 210s, 129s, etc. but can handle anything from a W116 up to the present cars. I have brought several of my cars to GR and have been 100% satisfied with their work. They recently built a brand new, hugely expanded shop. They are usually open on Saturdays, particularly early in the morning through mid-day. They know 126s and 124s like the back of their hand. Larry owns and daily drives a 560SEL and his dad daily-drives both a W140 sedan and a W126 diesel sedan.

Cheers,
Gerry

GR AutoCare did a PPI for me on a diesel 126 car which turned out to be so decrepit that I couldn't afford it for free. Thanks to Larry! These are stand up guys, very experienced and know what they are doing. Hat tip to Gerry as well.

Glad it worked out Jim. I keep in touch with Larry personally since leaving Texas for Annapolis back in October.

This is an old post, and I won't remove it, but unfortunately I am not making any further recommendations of shops as several folks have had horrible experiences with shops I've recommended in the past and have had positive experiences with of more than 15 years.

Caveat emptor !!
