How would you harvest the electrical connector from this part?

You are looking at the amplifier from a 92/93 w124 500E or any w124 that uses the Becker Grand Prix 2000 with option code 757 that has the two amplifiers mounted in the trunk.

I want to harvest the connector from the junkyard-amplifiers that I have to make a cable harness so that I can connect my car to other audio equipment without cutting any wires. My question is ---- how would you go about removing this connector?

It looks like the 12 pins go right through the black connector and into a big silver block. That silver block is HEAVY. I am not sure I will be able to desolder that silver block from the board. Even if I were able somehow to remove the silver block from the board, I think the pins are PERMANENTLY attached to the silver block.

My brain keeps telling me to find some kind of teeny tiny cutting device that can get in the 2.3mm gap between the black plastic and the silver block to chop off all 12 pins, and then try to find another source of pins so that I can "rebuild" the connector.

There has to be an easier way. Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks.

OK, twisting off the pins in hopes of "releasing" the black plastic housing thing was a bust. Twisting the pins just breaks off the plastic around it. :-( 85358

My next attempt with specimen #2 (I had 4 in total --- now I have only 3 left) is to use this tool. I hope the vibrations from the tool do not end up shattering the plastic once the teeth of the metal blade comes in contact with the shank of the metal pins.

Ooh. That dremel option looks to be along the lines of what I was mentally conjuring up looking at the photos. I think that will be your best bet.

What are you up to here anyway?

JLAA, I went to three yards on Friday, and one of them had an appropriate 1992 US-spec W124 model. Unfortunately the amps were already removed from the car, and the connectors were totally bodged up by a stereo installer who put in an aftermarket amp in the same location as the factory amps. So, it was a total bust, unfortunately. Sorry about that. I do come across early 124s (and late ones) with great regularity, so if you still need the connectors in the future let me know and I'll grab them next time I come across an appropriate car. Usually ever month or so is when I go to the yards, or when there are some interesting cars taken in.

Cheers,
Gerry

I wanna discretely use aftermarket amplification (disguised as a CD changer in a grey felt case) and hook it up to the becker headhunt without butcher any wires, hence me trying to harvest the male/female connectors to make an adapter.

Dude! Thanks so much for looking for me! I hope you found what you are looking for --- thanks for trying to look for me! No worries!!
