Wonderful- suspension is overrated anyway. I shall do the same to my 500E now shortly. Just need oversized rims, undersized tyres and mad camber settings then a supercharger for all the chicks who will no doubt be running wild after it
I really was impressed by two things:
That people of that generation were into these cars.
The overall look of the black cars especially with the trim apparently blacked out except for the chrome belt line.
No, I wouldn't want my car to have that "stance" or to drive one that did...

Yeah... and the one with wheels and exhaust tips to play off the amber corners... impressive, and a nice look actually... not for me, but impressive and a good look nonetheless... I don’t need it to agree with my aesthetic in order to be nice, if that makes any sense.
Those poor cars. Why would anyone want to rice out a Mercedes is beyond me. I’m all for a proper stance when the car is lowered, but this show vs. go look is just funny to me. There are plenty of other cars to rice out and seeing a W124 in this state just pains me. Still, at least it’s not as bad as this...

Me too. I'm impressed that these Gen Zers are into these cars as well. I'm not into the stance look, but I'm appreciative that there are young kids that still love cars ..... and love "Grandpa cars" at that!
Too many kids these days are totally anti-car. "Vision Zero", "Bikes not Cars," "Cars are the root of all Evil....." "Critical Mass," "<City> Bicycle Coalition"....
There is a lot of this sentiment around these days, and I appreciate it when the youngsters don't buy into this drivel.
These are kid’s cars all show and no go. They have invested a lot of money and they look well maintained. I particularly liked the window sticker that says “Do NOT OPEN the rear window a 300 miles per hour”
That stance is called “SLAMMED” as far as I’m concerned and is just wrong.
It looks awful and the ride is for shit. If you watched the video you can see the stagecoach bounce. I would expect the ride to feel like an early Datsun pickup truck.
It's all personal preference, but I prefer something that looks relatively stock, but performs much better than it looks. The whole Q-ship concept, which the 036 was a textbook case of in the early 90's.
The video above showcases some folks who prefer the opposite scenario. Neither is "wrong", but the visual modifications are definitely not everyone's cup o' tea.
I hesitate to even post this, but I just don't get it?
I not only don't understand why, I can't even figure out how?
Reminds me of the old Forrest Gump quote - "stupid is as stupid does".
ps - No Benzes were harmed in the making of this video....

Much of the passion behind car ownership is about design. Some see cars as tools, others, like me, as works of art. Performance without design is a bit boring to me. I like the design of the Beige Prius above. The white one, not so much. I personally like some cars when lowered and levelled as long as the camber is correct, the tires are not stretched and the car rides well without bottoming out. Smaller cars work best, the shorter wheelbase providing better clearance for real world obstacles. It's difficult and expensive to achieve. I don't like the look of an 036 lowered too much beyond stock. It just doesn't look right to my eye anymore. My .02 cents.
As the saying goes, fashion comes and goes but style is eternal. I might not be a kid anymore, but I always knew back then and still now what is is crap and what is not. Yes I lowered my 500E a bit, threw on some wider wheels/tires, got a free flowing exhaust (that’s sets off car alarms)...but my car sounds and looks proper. I can’t even go into how many times I get compliments from every type of car and driver that sees and hears my car, including even the ricers that pull up to the traffic light and tell me how much they like the stance of my car. I don’t need any of them telling me how my car looks and sounds to them, I know how it looks and sounds to me, as I modified the car to suit my needs and my style. But the changes I made will always retain the style of the 036, without succumbing to what “some” feel is fashionable at the moment and irrespective of the age group.
The below video is a perfect example of when tasteless fashion seems to have a calling. If that example puts me in the “I’m too old“ group, then I’m very proud to be in that group. Cause the alternative is just silly.
I used to be into stanced cars, back when “stance” was spelled with a “C” and not an “S”. Here they are from low to high, and a shot of my car sans interieur. The green spheres are similar to that used in the SLS of the 036, except the car used five of them. I would drill out the orificies in the spheres to five an even softer ride than OE..... but the drill bits were so fine and precise that I had to buy drill bits from Grainger, and not Home Depot.
