WANTED Looking for NOS 500E Headlights

Are you looking for the entire headlight or the lenses? I have these new old stock lenses. USD 9K. That's the crazy market in my head and I'm sure no one would pay so much for them! 😅.

Market price like 3.5 for headlights.

I am not sure if you can find a brand new, NOS set of 036 headlights for USD3500. @gerryvz has been using a EUR5000 figure for years, mostly in jest, but I think that’s closer and closer to reality now, if not already reality.

For example, in this thread, the seller is asking USD4000 for NOS lenses (not the entire headlight). As well in that thread, @northNH mentioned that he sold a new set of headlights 2-3 years ago for USD3.5K back then …. And that he, as the seller, felt like a thief back then, and that the buyer today now probably feels like the thief!

Anyways, the ultra valuable part, if you already have a set of new lenses, is the lens itself … with the special inboard fluting and the mirror interior finish. If you have a set of lenses already, you could graft them onto a set of pedestrian restored w124 headlight housings and it would look exactly the same as NOS real 036 headlights and only you and concours judges would know the difference …..

Good luck with the search - hope you find what you are looking for at an acceptable price!

Yes, my facelift Euro E500 lenses only are EUR 5.000—

I do still have early .036 headlamp assemblies, NOS...but none are for sale at this moment.

Its true, they would be priced at or near 5 grand USD, at this time.

There are new and used sets for sale in Asia and the Eastern block for cheaper so take a chance.

Yet another long-standing GVZ prediction comes true :burnout:

I don't think anyone is doubting the Deferred Maintenance Costs Law anymore. Actually with inflation I've had to "up" the $$$ totals in recent months. It's significantly higher (+60-70%) than the original Law was.

Hello Guys,

I am looking for New old stock 500E headlights

EURO

I am totally willing to pay Market price.
Looks like there is a lot of difference in what people believe is the market price. I personally would not pay $5000 for headlights that could easily get cracked/smashed by junk thrown up from any truck. Let's hope someone reproduces them at some point, to stop all these price gougers. Let's face it , $5000 for a set of headlights is crazy, our E500E's are not $10m Ferraris. Just my 0.2c

I'm just thinking aloud here. Because of the general scarcity of 036 headlamp assemblies/lens - and particularly of left-hand (UK) traffic ones - an option owners have would be to replace the ones on their cars with pedestrian W124 light assemblies - and to store the genuine 036 items until the time comes to sell the car?

This is why I have been selling genuine Lamin-X, at a fraction of the price that Lamin-X sells its own product for, for many years. To protect headlight lenses.

This is what I've been doing for a few years now, although I'm waiting for the time to install them with Laminex, not at a time to sell. Anyone without Laminex protection driving their car regularly is playing $5000.00 Russian Roulette or worse since the lenses may be unreplaceable.

I’m with r44raven on the pension aspect. I have a set of NIB 500E Euro headlights from Hella (with vent tubes) and they are not going anywhere. Glad I got a second set when I did, not to mention the minuscule price (compared to now) I paid for them back in 2006.

What did you pay for them?

I have a hunch that at some point in the future, another production run of E500E headlights will be made, but it could be a long wait. Fortunately options exist, in terms of being able to retrofit Euro lenses onto pedestrian W124 Euro light buckets; or at worst just using pedestrian W124 lights (or modifying such).

But, I think most long-term committed E500E owners here, hedged their bets years ago by purchasing extra sets of lights and/or lenses.

Not to toot my own horn, but Lamin-X is an excellent and cheap investment, if you are running a precious set of Euro lights. Thanks to our member @doolar (whom I call $$dollar$$), I have an "updated" pre-facelift 500E Euro lamp template that has a better overall fit than the template supplied to me some 20 years ago by Lamin-X themselves (which didn't even fit my E500, lol).

Current Lamin-X pricing is here.

Fantastic that means the template made it’s way over to you! Yours truly $$dollar$$ 😊

Question? Is there a really a market price for NLA specific model parts? Who sets those prices btw?

Its all about supply and demand.

Don't want to pay to play? No problem, there's someone waiting who will. And whatever price someone paid for a part 25+ years ago is quite irrelevant today.

It has become very unappealing to me to criticize real capitalism in a country where capitalism has been basterdized to take advantage of every buyer thru deceit and lack of transparency. We've been hosed too long.

Umm... how much will it cost me for a voltage regulator that might last 500 miles? What do you mean I don't have any choice?

I think a small rant may have slipped out.

I (personally) have a consistent, standing, market price for all of my NLA model parts -- ranging from front license plate fillers to neutral safety switches to headlight lenses to transmission tunnel blankets to motor/transmission mounts: EUR 5.000 / USD $5,000.

If people don't like it, I just refer them to @captruff's footer signature.

+1
And as it always has been - bring money and religion into the game, and the decending spiral starts rotating.

Didn't we have a betting game on final sales price on cars going here for a while? It was just for fun with very low stakes, but what happenend to the initiator, I think he was peppered with something related to money and left the forum. That's pity because we lost a contributor to what we intentionally are doing here, talking cars - and not about the damn money all the time and making profit on long time loyal members.
