A002 153 6228 or Bosch 0 261 231 009 fits 560SEC 500E R129 500SL
Do you use these in the US or are they Europe only ?
They seem to be unavailable the only thing I have seen is a firm in Germany
who make an alternative replacement.
Sometimes US parts prices and availability is much better in America
Thanks for any help

A0021536228 is for M116/M117 only. I'm not sure what would be equivalent.

Possibly NLA from MB but might be available aftermarket somewhere?

The US models do not use knock sensors on the engine (nor the "16-pin EZL", which is where the sensors are connected), at least not on Gen2 cars.

Anything would be of help
The problem with mine is the actual sensors are encased in a plastic housing and
with heat and time the plastic has degraded and broken up.
I did buy a new sensor of a similar type for a different car to try and remove the
housing but they seem to be epoxied in.
I could just use a generic terminal cover of the type that looks like a smokers
pipe to cover it but I wonder if it would still work correctly
High speed pinking accelerating up a motorway hill may be hard to hear but
cause a lot of damage
They are located behind the engine mount arms that are bolted to the block
so its not a quick job to remove them unless its from an engine thats out of
the car.
Main dealer today says NLA (and stupid price if it was not ) the Bosch part
seems out of stock everywhere.
A parts specalist in Germany seems to offer a replacement with modern sensors
and heat proof cable so this may be an option
I dont think there is much to go wrong barring physical damage so used should
be fine its just a pain to remove

@jhodg5ck may be able to rebuild your harness too?

Probably a kind of coaxial cable feeds the knock sensors. A rebuild is probably preferable to a used harness anyway of course. I did check with several contacts of mine and sorry to say no one yet can supply a good used one ☹

If only the plastic cover is cracked, the sensor may be working fine. Are there any engine problems, lack of power, pinging/detonation/knock, etc? Or just a visually cracked plastic cover?

Looking at some older threads aW124 harness was unavailable and the owner was
advised to use the harness from a w140 on the basis the sensors and plug was the
same just longer cable lengths but you can waste a lot of money if you dont know
for sure.
Thanks for asking your contacts

For the W124/R129 sensor on LH-SFI, that is correct, the 140 version is the same but with a longer cable.

I don't know if the M119 sensor will work on the M117 engine or not. If they look identical and the wires are long enough, it may be worth a try...?

:scratchchin:

The plastic has broken away leaving the whole body of the sensor exposed
I dont know if they are shrouded like that so they only pick up from the face
in contact with the engine block rather than general engine bay noise
The M119 sensors look the same and the connecting plug looks the same
I dont know if all sensors work the same eg frequency range and the different
part numbers just relate to cable lengths and the connectors
But I would have hoped Mercedes would have just superceded the NLA part
numbers to that part if it would still function so perhaps not

This sensor is a main reason for EZL failure, the heat under the engine damage the harness, but its easy to find in middle east, if you couldnt find i will help you.

Thats very kind of you. The used harness looks to be in good condition in the pictures
from the sellers listing but it would be good to know if a new one was available
and at what sort of cost I am sure that as the cars age there are other people
in Europe who will need to replace this
