MB oils specs for new 2023 E-class

We recently bought a new 2023 E class wagon. It’s due for the first “service A”. From what I can tell, service A is basically an oil change. I plan to do this myself but I’m a bit confused by the oil recommendations in the owners manual. A screen shot is attached. I’m guessing 5 w30 full synthetic is what I should use but I can’t find any cross references between the MB oil specs (229.51, 229.52, 229.61, 229.71, 229.72) and the standard XwXX. We live in South Florida, (always warm, no winter here) if that makes a difference on what viscosity I should use. Thanks.

My newer MB is a 2017 w205 Diesel and if it helps any, here at least I can buy 20L boxes of genuine MB oil from dealer.

That is to say that it comes in a MB branded box and called genuine engine oil! As we know it's reboxed oil by another manufacturer but it's what MB supply as the genuine product.

229.52 spec is what I get - 5W30 for the diesels and maybe petrol suitable as well not sure. It is very well priced at £60+ tax here. Although I get sort of trade prices at my dealer with the stuff I buy on regular basis.

So I'd say your best bet is to pick up 20L of genuine MB oil from your MB dealer based on what they say is correct.

£3 + VAT per litre?

Yes that's correct. £60+VAT for a 20L box from my MB Dealership. Whilst I get trade prices sort of thing, I don't think the regular price is much different either. It's very good value for money. Indeed, by far the cheapest engine oil I can buy! Local autoparts places are now circa £50 - £75 for 1x 5L jar of branded full synthetic engine oil.

Wow, I need to check-in with my local Stealer when I next need an oil change.

I currently have Red Line oil in my M119 which I got heavily discounted from Demon Tweeks for about £10 per litre and it’s currently nearly £20!!!

Finally got back to this, ended up using Mobil 1 5w-30 esp. I’m guessing this is a true full synthetic. (has the MB 229.51 and 229.52 approval). Took me forever to find the drain plug, these new fangled machines don’t look at all like what I’m used to. Spent 45 minutes trying to find a dipstick, turns out there isn’t one. Oil level is shown electronically by paging through some menus. Oil capacity per spec is 9 qts. So, no dipstick…. Just put in 9 qts. figured out how to find the electronic oil level indication, shows right at the max mark. I’ve always tried to run halfway between min and max so drained about 1.5 qts. No change in oil level indication. (see photo). Anybody have any tips on how to get the level half way between min and max? Thanks, J.

I’m trying to find a “system description” for the electronic oil level sensing system. I think WIS document AP18.00-P-1812MKI might be helpful. Anybody know if this might be available on the internet somewhere?

Think I figured it out. To get an actual report of how much oil is in the pan, you have to access the “workshop menu”. This requires a series of button holds and pushes not revealed anywhere in the owners manual. I happened across a you tube video describing the sequence. Once you are in the workshop menu you can select what you want to display. See attached pictures. I really do miss having a dipstick!
