Roma, you want to have shift knob sitting lower (closer to the shift gate), you might want to get a shaft for a R129 chassis. When I installed the V8 shift knob with the stock shaft, I found it sitting a tad high for my liking. With the R129 shaft, the shift knob is much closer to the shift gate and IMHO looks better.

It seems I ll have to spend some time extracting my old knob shaft :sawzall:

I read Rik site and it looks like I should get a W202 shaft . Is W202 shaft the same with R129 ? I mean the way the knob itself installs (lock/unlock pattern) ?
Should I buy a new shaft ? or it is like $100 part ?

By the way mine is a way cooler than yours , I got burl wood :tongueout:

Ah, that's right, Rick does have the shaft upgrade listed. I believe either 129 or 202 should work and I believe they both share the same angle and the same height.

The shift knob just screws on the base.

I kept my shift knob in all black because I like the feel of leather over wood.

This simply HAS to be some bling that Mrs. Vook and Mrs. Roma will be totally digging.....

The W202 shaft is curved like the OE W124 shaft. Now I don't remember exactly, but there is another that can be used, but it is straight, not curved. I though it was the R129 shaft, but I can't find any pictures of it in my archives to confirm.

When I was getting my shift knob from formymercedes.com, I asked if a shorter shaft was available that was curved like the W124 shaft and the R129 shaft was suggested and it fits just right.
